As a kid I watched the OG Star Wars flicks and tried to get ex-bf who never saw them into it but since they'd wallowed in decades of Family Guy/Robot Chicken/General Pop Culture they just didn't vibe with it at all.

I only recently watched it for the first time last month. I realize I've absorbed a lot of the film thru pop cultural osmosis.
I had a similar issue with the original Ghost in the Shell movie where I'd seen so much of what it influenced that film didn't really pack the punch I know it could have.

I've been saying it for years-
BimBooths on every corner.
You walk in, Bimbo Latex Drone pops out.
Flashing neon advertisements for'em.
Peer pressure your friends to hop in one together.
Can't get into the cool bars and clubs without using the BimBooth first, etc.

Maybe it's because I was fed a diet of Superhero flicks this technically helped birth but '78 was a rough sit for me.
There's a lot to love-
Reeve is great, a lot of the Superman-ing activities are good-
But the pacing of the whole thing just feels like a slog.

I can't speak for Cobra Kai but Squid Game was just straight up a property that should not have been franchised and I think the issue with Stranger Things has more to do with the huge lull in between seasons.

There's plenty of versions of Doom out there and I'm sure they'll contort the character to better fit RDJ's style-
And that sucks, because we really haven't just gotten a good, standard take on Doom in live action.
