I kinda disliked the Kubrick film for a hot minute since I vibe with what the book was going for much better but I've grown to respect and enjoy it's riff on the story, in no small part thanks to Flannigan's sequel really fleshing it out/inserting those book elements back

The exact wrong steps would be to just ignore Legacy and shit on that fandom, ditch the virtual world setting and lose the base interested in the technical filmmaking, and make it a vehicle for sex pest/box office poison Jared Leto.
And by all accounts it just sounds like a boring cliche slog

Tron was something that was a filmmaker's favorite flick, not something that really spoke to general audiences.
Legacy is a cult film with a diehard fanbase cemented by a legendary soundtrack.
From square one you have to accept Tron isn't something that's gonna make you a ton of money.
