Excited that my short film “Mendo’s Carousel” is heading to the Yountville International Short Film Festival Feb 2, 2025.

Editing tip: Take an acting class. I really loved studying Meisner Technique with Andrew Benne. Getting into moment to moment work got me to read performances differently and place myself deeper into the point of view of the characters while editing. It’s a superpower for editors.

One of my favorite menu items in Avid Media Composer is “Restore Default Patch”. I always map it to my keyboard or interface so that I can realign my channels instantly.

With some limits, yes. Color is powerful. You can do quite a bit in terms of tone, warmth, coolness, vibrance, grain structure, contrast, eye focus, vignettes. That sort of thing. But you can’t easily change a perspective, a lens, or the optical process of the light hitting the chip with color.

Video Editing Tip: Template your sequence and label each track. This is especially helpful when working in teams. Having audio in the proper channels keeps everything organized and easy to turnover to the mix. Real-time effects apply when the template is consistent.
