I appreciate your insights on the topic, and I watched your video on it as well now. It's made me rethink a couple points on the debate.

But ultimately our feelings on its impact (and my fears of long-term effects) are different and that's ok

All CMDR restrictions are arbitrary -- why 100 cards, why singleton, etc. etc. -- it makes sense that where we draw the line is personal preference.

For me, putting G cards in a Mono W crosses that line.

"Why color identity at all" is equally valid, even though I know we both prefer keeping it.

If they have no problem bending over backwards making UB IPs work in Magic -- MaRo also talked about difficulties with color pie, lack of flying etc. -- then I'm sure they can continue to make it work fine for Commander too

To clarify: when I see people talking about "more options" I never see people acknowledging that you have access to those options by simply choosing a multicolor commander.

The fact that your choice in commander can impose restrictions is a feature not a bug

It dumps on a feature I very much enjoy about Commander, both from a brewing and aesthetic perspective.

We aren't hurting for options. We got 2060 new cards last year alone.

And if you want more options you can always pick a multicolor commander. It's wild people gloss over this so much.

One comment said they're going to make me a Rokiric deck made up of only multicolored hybrid cards that aren't Boros and it's both hilarious and sad, it sums up the change perfectly

My point is that if we're allegedly (I am skeptical this is the real reason) changing the hybrid rules for a handful of cards, it's better to just print mono color versions of those few cards than make fundamental changes to the format

The strangest comment is "it's not overpowered if you just pay the 1" which is SOMETIMES true at low power (less spells cast), but not at all true at high-power / cedh, and also even at low-power it's still problematic b/c most people still don't pay and never will!

That's draw based on attacking, Blue has had that forever, you see it also on Titan of Littjara Kindred Discovery etc.

I think it's an issue when the argument for changing a rule of Commander is "we design hybrid cards to fit in both mono colors" and the existing card pool is a bunch of examples of it not being the case

It's literally not true though.

If a card said "whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, draw a card." That's not a Blue card. That's a Black card.

Blue can draw cards without restriction but that's not the same as drawing under any restriction.

When I think of EDH I don't think of neat interactions, close games, flashy plays... I think of the iconic "do you pay the 1" line being told to me 5 time a turn! That's where the REAL fun begins!
