What it’s all for? To pay, in part, for tax cuts highly skewed to the wealthy.

"At first glance, OBBB’s Child Tax Credit might seem like it provides progress. But dig deeper, and the design shows how hollow this promise is. A slight increase in the maximum benefit does not necessarily mean children are truly better off."

Congress increased the maximum federal CTC by $200, but eligibility for the CTC got harder.
Under new rules, less families qualify for the full credit because their income isn't high enough. We're grateful Maryland's CTC helps those who need it most. Visit marylandtaxcredits.gov/EarnedIt
"To truly help those with the greatest need, policymakers could make the CDCTC refundable, broaden eligible care expenses, and deliver the benefit when families pay for care, not months later at tax time."

Instead, nearly 80% of the more generous benefit will go to families in the middle and top of the income distribution, who were already eligible under prior law.

Fourteen years ago today, in the midst of one of our country’s worst economic crises, Americans saw the last federal minimum wage increase. Since then, we’ve experienced another recession and inflation, housing and consumer prices that continue to rise, far outpacing the minimum wage.

15.07.2025 18:35 — 👍 1 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0The MAGA Republican budget plan will make healthcare + groceries more expensive for us by slashing $ for Medicaid and food assistance to finance more tax breaks for the very rich + big corporations.
This bill, along with Trump's tariffs, will make things even worse for us. This can't happen!
The Senate GOP Reconciliation Bill = HUGE tax breaks for the wealthiest Marylanders, and very little for the rest of us. Check out the chart below ⬇️

💵 The EITC puts real money back into the hands of working families: helping with groceries, rent, child care, and more.
As this piece explains, the CTC expansion the House Ways & Means Cmte proposes would provide no CTC increase to millions of kids in low-income working families, with families in the bottom 20% by income getting just 2% of the new CTC benefits and families in top 20% getting nearly 10 times as much
12.05.2025 22:18 — 👍 19 🔁 15 💬 3 📌 1House Republicans have proposed the largest SNAP cut in history.
These funding cuts will not root out waste or fraud as they claim, but they will take away food from hungry families in need.
Despite the pro-family talk, the Republican proposal for the Child Tax Credit does NOTHING for 17 million working families and even strips eligibility from another 4.5 million kids. Disgraceful.
