It's been two years since the #HamOnt cybersecurity incident. I sure would like to see the full report we were promised.
Aw man. Arme Supply was purchased by Reliable Parts last year, and they closed the #HamOnt (Stoney Creek) store last Friday. Another Amazon victim no doubt. It was nice to have a quick local place for appliance parts.
The HPL has *always* been a #HamOnt jewel. The mayor should be getting as much pushback on her insistence to cut its budget as she did when she proposed to close the Stoney Creek Arena.
Moments ago, at a Special City Council meeting, Mayor Andrea Horwath (@mayorandreahorwath.bsky.social) reaffirmed her opposition to the Hamilton Public Library's budget request.
Mayor Horwath has declined to comment on these matters. #yhmcc #HamOnt
Whoever does the purchasing for HPL has a great sense of humour. The last music CD they added to their collection, the only one with a 2026 publish date, was Megadeth.
Former Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath is pressuring the Hamilton Public Library to accept a smaller budget than they require in the face of cyberattacks and opioid overdoses. They’re closing the Central branch on Sundays but she wants more cuts. This is the “left wing” leader 😡
It looks like the HPL has stopped buying new music CDs for their collection. Probably in part because distributors aren't providing them, but still. Always fun to find random music on the shelves, even the 30yo+ & scratched ones seem to play well.
They are still buying audiobook CDs.
Starbucks or Union Chicken if they exit the GO Train on the side furthest from the engine. And as someone else suggested, Sephora if they exit closer to the engine. TTC is closer to Sephora, but it's easy to end up on the other side and get a little lost.
I dunno, I think they've already tried to improve HFD incidents and I fear putting more money toward improving it will make it even worse. Maybe they'll run it from two desktop computers instead of one? It would be very nice if they'd just make it open data.
•Launch of a new online recreation services platform, making it easier for residents to register and access programs
•Improved Fire Incident and Housing and Homelessness dashboards to support transparency and accountability (4/5)
The HPL branches are open regular hours from 12pm today, except Greensville.
I have a UHF antenna pointed at the CN Tower in the attic, with a cable running from the antenna to the TV. No Sportsnet, but CityTV...
Um, still doing this in 2025... 😉
No frost advisories for #HamOnt because our season for frost alerts ended on Oct 15. However, both Niagara and Burlington continue with alerts until the end of the month so if you still have plants in your garden, use them as a guide.
DD loves these. I... have avoided them.
Sure.
On Friday, the HFD updated their official incident app to include data from the past 24 hours. The update broke the feed for @hfdincidents.bsky.social but I've fixed it now. So back to guessing where a #HamOnt fire incident has occurred based on cross streets and stations dispatched. Enjoy!
Not free, but Fastmail is an Australian option.
Definitely throw rocks.
It was one year today that the #HamOnt cybersecurity incident began. It would certainly be nice to get an update from the city on their progress to date and continued steps to recovery.
Still often missing street names and/or GIS coordinates to try to determine the location. Not much I can do there. Bad data in = bad data out.
I've added updates to @hfdincidents.bsky.social because apparently the dashboard does update during a current incident. Hooray! But to identify this properly, because the order changes every time, I need to alphabetically sort the stations and dispatches. So bonus?
Go Bills!
Hi all, I may have activated @hamontalerts.bsky.social over here. So if that's something you might be interested in seeing from other places, it's here now too.
goodbye saltwire... it has been a salty slice!
They are only providing cross streets, not block numbers. So the incident is "somewhere in this area". Sometimes, as in this specific case, the second cross street is in the dataset but hidden on the dash because the first is marked "Location not available" - second cross was listed as Strachan.
"The city eventually posted about the breach on its website, at their accountability and transparency page... but did not inform local media through a news release." Lovely. Thanks for covering this.
All fixed!
Hrm, guess I need to fix that error with apostrophes in street names.
Just Bluesky and Mastodon for now.
