Initial investigation, with the mouth of the shark open. We can see the "tongue", the teeth and on the side of the head the external opening (pores) of the ampullae of Lorenzini
Teeth of the tope shark, in the middle of the jaw, with pointed cusps in the middle of the tooth and cusplets (later pointed projections)
Teeth of the tope shark, on the side of the jaw, with one oblique pointed cusp with 3 cusplets (later pointed projections) on one side only
Ampullae of Lorezini! The sensory bulbs are visible immersed in conductibe gel
I found the head of a #shark for sale at the local fishmarket! We dissected it and I am in awe of the beaty of the teeth and the amupullae of Lorenzini! From the teeth, we ID it as a tope (Galeorhinus galeus) @lobsterlucy.bsky.social @cgubili.bsky.social @micmanta.bsky.social @salforduni.bsky.social
