Check out our new paper: a review of the taxonomy of the Needle-billed Hermit (P. philippii) using morphological/molecular data. We reinforce in this work that drainage-capture events in the Amazon basin have had an important role on the genetic structure and diversification of the local biota.

a paradise tanager perching on a branch. it has a life-green mask, black back and tail, red butt, light blue breast, and dark blue throat. basically looks like a fake bird coloured in by a toddler, but it's actually real
a Bicknell's thrush, with a brown back/head and a grey (somewhat striped) breast
Bird colouration varies a tremendous amount. But why? In a new paper, @j-dunning.net , John Endler, & I look at the relationship between plumage and viewing conditions in 2610 species of birds, finding strong, non-sexual effects (esp. on females).

Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) ordination plot with stress values constructed with weighted Bray–Curtis dissimilarities showing the differences in (a) plant species, (b) frugivore species, and (c) frugivory interactions among forest classes. Each dot represents one of the 17 study areas while ellipses depict the forest classes. Forest classes correspond to: Undisturbed forest, Logged forests, Logged-and-17yburned forests and Logged-and-3y-burned forests.
Our new paper led by Liana Rossi documents loss and turnover of fruit-frugivore interactions in variably-degraded Amazonian forests, with important implications for ecosystem service delivery #Ornithology #Ecology 🌎🧪

Meanwhile in Brazil 🇧🇷 indigenous people had their rights threatened one more time! By loosing their right for education. Worth mention the Governance of Pará State is meeting with Mercuria Energy Group 🇨🇭 this week to discuss carbon budget that was supposed to benefit these people. Isn't funny? 🤡 👀

I am absolutely flattered to share our review at @natrevbiodiv.bsky.social. Lead by Dr. Camila Ribas! A collaborative/interdisciplinary work where we integrated geological, climatic, ecological and genetic evidence for the region that hosts the largest biodiversity on Earth: the Amazon! Enjoy it! 😃
