We are ranchers in Rio Arriba County. From the ponderosas down to the sagebrush, this land is both rugged and sacred. Ancient rivers carved the canyons and left the mesas
We can’t pass down poisoned land and call it a legacy...
to protect what we've inherited we need bonding reform, forcing oil companies to fully fund well plugging/cleanup. So far abandoned wells have cost taxpayers $100M. #NMPol

State land commissioner turns to courts to force oil well cleanup
Recent lawsuits seek to avoid costs from orphaned wells, which could cost taxpayers hundreds of millions in coming years.
Commissioner Garcia Richard has made it clear -- If you use state lands, you better clean up after yourself. Her efforts have saved NM taxpayers at least $68 million by forcing oil and gas companies to clean up their own messes.

For more than six decades, our communities have been harmed by the pollution from coal fired power plants and coal mines on or near tribal lands.

70% of NMs prefer that leaders place more emphasis on protecting water, air, wildlife habitat, & recreation opps over maximizing the amount of land available for drilling & mining. The CBF does this by funding local projects to reduce carbon pollution all while building a sustainable economy.

Forest Service says it failed to account for climate change in New Mexico blaze
The Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak fire has become the latest flashpoint in the debate over prescribed burns meant to reduce the risk of disastrous wildfires.
Regarding the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon fire, the Forest Service relied on poor weather data & failed to understand how climate change had dried out the landscape, which contributed to how much damage it caused and how large it became. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

57% believe climate change is an extremely or very serious problem. This is unsurprising given the various ways climate change impacts New Mexicans & the state as a whole, including more severe wildfires & floods, extended droughts that limit water supplies & more extreme weather events and heat.

DYK? 77% of New Mexicans support the government taking action to reduce carbon pollution that contributes to climate change. CBF addresses climate change while building up our economy and growing jobs in emerging industries. We can do both. www.coloradocollege.edu/other/stateo...

Economic diversification is part of CBF's funding & outdoor recreation is a key element. The outdoor rec economy is a significant contributor to NM's economy. In 2023, the outdoor rec economy contributed $3.2 billion to New Mexico's GDP, employed 29,182 people & provided $1.5 billion in income.

Many low-income households in NM spend a huge portion of their income—at times 18% or more—on electricity, which is much higher than the national average of 8%. Programs to improve energy efficiency in homes like those in the CBF are a smart investment for New Mexico.
