SUSAN L. LEARY

Tulip Ceiling

I am chasing an idea because I am no longer chasing anger. I am no longer chasing a comfortable bed

from the feathered confines of a box. And the birds asleep inside the bedroom drawer, do they sleep on their sides

or their backs? Do they sleep in silence?
Where there was once a barrier, do they discern a ceiling

built of tulips? Form guarantees language doesn't exhaust itself, but is a dream more image

or more language? Once, I held you
as I would an eyelash, a line that arrived to me

in a dream. A private admission, like the muffled song of two birds caught inside the tiny night garden

of a drawer, neither sad nor beautiful. As now, in death, your teeth are still rotting. Am I successful in this moment

of clarity? With the birds, you'd claimed, were yellow? Unclutch your hands. Brother this time,

tell me, why?

So enjoyed stopping by the Grist table at AWP to pick up my contributor copy of the most recent issue! Thanks to @grrrbinsky.bsky.social and Maggie Rue Hess for including this poem! Love sharing space with some friends here, too! 💙

Mother Earth went POP!

When we sat down in that small consulting room, I knew we had met before, but her appearance was altered, dramatically so. 'doctor', who is 'patient?'''

is an exciting new voice in poetry and I am sure this pamphlet, a fascinating and powerful mix of moths and medicine, will establish her as a name to watch. She Juxtaposes snippets of doctor/patient conversations with beautiful lyric poems focusing on moths in a wholly original and bold

Ha seriously I am sounding a little hoarse already! Let’s find some way to meet up. I’ll be tabling for Grist from 9-11 tomorrow, but after that mostly wandering (+ probably some panels…and finding quiet spaces/comfy chairs).

Donate to We Lost Everything to a Fire. Help My Family Rebuild., organized by Chloe Clark On January 24th, our childhood home burned down. Our parents lost 50… Chloe Clark needs your support for We Lost Everything to a Fire. Help My Family Rebuild.

I'm still doing a GoFundMe to help my parents rebuild after a devastating house fire. The costs of doing so, with an uninsured house, are extremely high. My parents are elderly and low-income and my disabled brother lives with them. I deeply appreciate shares of this link!

I am going to link to organizations that I know for sure are helping trans Kansans. This thread will develop slowly as I either know people or will vet them.

At this point we have not heard from anyone being helped via relocation resources. These exist, but I assume they are overwhelmed.

A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Don't be fooled by this bill's name-- this is a book banning bill that will exclude LGBTQ books from all public schools NATIONWIDE.

Call your congresspeople and tell them to VOTE NO on this nakedly bigoted book banning bullshit.

What Bogi is describing happened to us - we reached out to an org to try to understand our options wrt our complex situation, and never heard back.

Last year I also reached out to our local ACLU multiple times and heard nothing back.

Every org is overloaded.
