Too important to me to Just Not Say Anything: Hyperion is definitely in my top five books, and The Terror is up there as well. His political opinions became noxious after 9/11 (see his "time traveler" essay/story in 2006) but I can't deny that Dan Simmons' work had a positive impact on my life.
