You Are Witnessing the Death of American Capitalism
YouTube video by Benn Jordan You Are Witnessing the Death of American Capitalism

Interesting Video. The end state is a bit of a stretch, but there are some interesting observations. Wonder what other #macroeconomics nerds think about this?

as the backlash begins to show itself, never let the bootlicking windsocks like zuckerberg and bezos ever forget what theyve done and said

I see from your profile you're a subject matter expert. Cool.

Author comes closest when he discusses right action (an important concept in Buddhism, of which I'm much more familiar).

1.1. First thing is to not clutter your mind with stories around things external to you. That co-worker who ignored your advice and did a dumb thing? Let them.

Daily meditation practice is a key exercise for this type of discipline.

1. Clearly discern what's changeable and what isn't.
2. Right action to maximize results when possible.
3. Be content with (even love) what is not changeable; accept fate/reality with grace and humility.

Approachable, lightweight introduction to stoicism. Not prescriptive wrt to putting together a daily practice, more an explainer of the basic pillars. www.audible.com/pd/The-Obsta...

ok, so this is totally out of left field. Taking an interest in Stoicism. Mainly because it's got a lot in common with Buddhism. Stoicism makes the same basic observations, but seems more simple and direct. I could never get on board with reincarnation tbh. Death = eternal dirt nap, deal with it.

My magic number is 57 (only three years away). That leaves social security as the dominant factor. Do I stick it out to 62, 65? It feels like gambling with how many good years you have left bc you don't know.

Question for the peanut gallery: How long do you keep working at a day job when you've saved enough that you'll be able to live comfortably even with significantly below average investment returns? In other words, how much is enough?

A nephew got his shit taken over bc password reuse and no 2fa. He reached out to me and thought I was gonna go all Liam Neeson on his behalf or some shit.

Instead I'm explaining to him what google authenticator is.

pro-tip for mortgages: interest rate buydown calculators don't factor the tax savings (it's deductible). Assuming your effective tax rate is 25%, you can hit break-even in as little as three years.

Quite pleased with the final product. It was hard to see the light at the end of this tunnel for a bit, but weโ€™re happy with the end result. Will be up for order soon, stay tuned!

The price gouging in health care is insane.

Yesterday, I received a seven-month supply of Tirzepatide for $2.4k. Eli Lilly shut down compounders, so the compounder offered a bulk deal for the final refill. Pharmacy price? $11k. Makes $2.4k feel like a bargain, doesnโ€™t it?

a tiny brown dachshund puppy with tan a snoot and eyebrows, and adorably wrinkly ankles sits on a black countertop. next to him is a chalk sign that reads, "My first visit at Vets 4 Paws in Irvine." the sign indicates the wide-eyed puppy's name is Otis, he is 2.2 kilograms, and he's 10 weeks old.

This is Otis. He just had his very first vet appointment. Even got to take a picture like it was his first day of school. 12/10 we're proud of you, Otis

Thomas E. Kurtz, co-creator of BASIC programming language, dies at 96 At Dartmouth, long before the days of laptops and smartphones, he worked to give more students access to computers. That work helped propel generations into a new world.

The first programming language I ever learned was BASIC running on a Data General Nova computer in 1975. The co-creator of BASIC has died.

hi Bluesky what's good? Thanks for the invite @daz.bgpstuff.net. Me? Up late working on this book chapter about DNS. What's amazing to me is ARPAnet ran off a single master hosts.txt file from like 1972 until 1983. That was a pretty big network to use a single flat file!
