Also, we’re all assuming that it would be centrist between Dems and Repubs. But given some of the hard core libertarian views in Silicon Valley, he could be trying to stake out the postage stamp ground to the right. Wouldn’t make strategic sense of course but that’s never stopped Elon.

The big problem is that pubs can’t stop clinging to “we’re an objective and unbiased source of news” canard even tho their readers know that’s BS. What they should do is better explain to readers how they work-cuz readers have no idea-and fight back more when challenged. Many eds still reject that.

Prob is that “bias” has become the antonym of “fair” but it’s not.Biases of a pub are the decisions it makes about what to cover/how+editing,hed,placement and promo choices. NYT, WSJ, WP, FT have difft biases. It should be a synonym of a pub’s mission. Fair/unfair is how it’s executing that mission.

Then editors convinced themselves that they could actually achieve this, when it is impossible.Every pub has a bias. It’s the lens it uses to see the world and to make choices about coverage. It’s honorable. Pubs should be more up front about it. Stead they’ve convinced themselves it’s a dirty word.
