On the other, we need to prepare ourselves to lose some heroes (or guys we thought were better than this).

Those of us from the San Antonio metro area were baptised as “true Texans” in this “hidden river,” fed by hill country rain. Ben & I, along with family & friends, tubed the Guadalupe the day before our wedding. My aunt & uncle, who raised my cousins in Gruene, hosted our river rat crew.

Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.

I stood up today and actually wondered momentarily how it is possible for me to stand without my special person on this earth.

I want to bring back tea service as a social custom. Ritual is a lubricant for a friendly visit and beautiful diversion from a difficult conversation.

It’s hard to be in “fight” and “let go” mode at the same time.

I’m hopeful in the short term but grieving for the inevitable.
