There are several very excellent actual costume historians on YouTube, and she's definitely one of the best.

"'properly fitted'?" A corset should fit like very close-fitted clothes. It shouldn't slip around. It shouldn't compress your ribs. If you can't go up one flight of stairs easily, it's too tight and/or the wrong shape for your ribs. People did/do tight lace. That's a fashion thing, like 4-5" heels.

The only strapless bra worth talking about is a full, over-hip *properly fitted* corset.
