Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.

Green-blue-grey blocky soundwaves on background. Centred in black serif lettering “Sonance”, with “journal of early modern sound studies” underneath.

👀 Over the last few months, I’ve been working with the terrific triumvirate @spparkle.bsky.social, @emiliekmmurphy.bsky.social & Hannah Yip to set up “Sonance: A Journal of Early Modern Sound Studies”, a diamond open access journal dedicated to historic sounds in all their wondrous & eclectic forms.

REMEMBER: All the "Don't use em-dashes" "don't use rule of three" advice because it makes your writing "look like AI" is because they stole actual writers work, and their "predict the next thing" stuff just simulates what WE FUCKING DO. Keep writing well. Use every style and trick you have. Fuck AI.

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

Every time you hear that such and such major is being eliminated because it isn't popular or it doesn't make money or it doesn't serve the streamlined mission of the institution, you should think about the WaPo cuts.

What is a paper without books and sports? A college without history and languages.

read online that someone set-up a premium rate phone number where callers get charged $3.99/ min. then they posted flyers in their neighborhood that said "call this number to report illegal aliens," but the number just puts them on hold with music. so far, they've made $17,000

Seriously considering getting a ticket to see the Melania documentary so I can eat the surprisingly good cheeseburger of the nearby dine-in movie theater in peace with nobody around to bug me about talking during the movie or being on my phone

A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all.

Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

A dark gray graphic with bright yellow green and white text. At the top left is a yellow green circle with the number 1 inside. Large bold text reads, “DO NOT SHOP AT ANY CORPORATE CHAINS ON FRIDAY JAN. 23.” Below, smaller white text explains that the first and easiest way to support the Minnesota blackout is to not shop at any corporate chains on Friday, including in person stores and online retailers. Additional text advises choosing businesses that have signed the Free DC pledge if essentials are needed, with a highlighted link reading “FreeDCproject.org where to shop.” In the bottom right corner is a yellow green circular arrow icon indicating to continue or swipe.

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.
