That uneasy sustain of strings beginning "It's Raining Today" and then Scott's voice coming in... beautiful.

Evening viewing recommendation? Watch GRIZZLY MAN (2005) in our Directed by Werner Herzog collection. Herzog's gripping documentary chronicles one of the most extreme-and ultimately tragic-experiments in human-animal cohabitation ever attempted.

From a quiet story about a logger, they knew they could build an American epic Filmmaking duo Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar tell low-key stories about dreamers. Teaming with actor Joel Edgerton, they went into the woods and emerged with something poetic.

For my first feature for @latimes.com, I talked to director Clint Bentley, his writing partner Greg Kwedar, and Joel Edgerton about TRAIN DREAMS, an intimate epic I'd encourage you to see in theaters before it hits Netflix later this month: www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

I'd add VICTIMAS DEL PECADO (1951) directed by Emilio Fernandez, which recently got the Criterion treatment so it's easy to see. I hope LA OTRA and other Gavaldons get similar restorations soon.

THANK YOU to the algorithm that ended up putting this book on my feed. Went straight to the library, read the first 4 chapters, decided I loved it and then on the walk home, a song I hadn't heard before came on that sounds like a theme song to a book like this open.spotify.com/track/60ps9V...
