I do think as well that if the conversations were open and safe within the games' industry. Then people would be able to relax and have genuinely productive conversation without fear of being cancelled or arrased.

ARC Raiders was mentioned...okay! But failed to mention Embark said they used: "TTS (Text-to-speech, always based on real voices." Then post-launch stated they used generative AI? 🤔 🤦🏾‍♂️ this conversation just needs to continue until we have legislation against it within creative arts.

It goes without saying, but, research entities you support and what they stand for. While we can eradicate every use. We can choose what to partake in and what not to.

Isn't it funny that Detroit: Become Human—a game all about AI—was made without a single ounce of generative AI, yet is one of the best out there? There’s a big difference between tools that enhance creativity and those that just mimic or steal.

It’s a really great challenge you put forward in an open conversation. It’s good to be educated about AI. Check out the companies you work for and keep asking questions until your are satisfied.

There is a lot of claim about “Ethical AI” this does not nor has it ever existed 🤦🏽‍♂️.

Right now a lot of prestigious institutions, businesses, governments and educational establishments are pushing for it hard core to alleviate the need for people under the guise of “it helps with productivity” 🙄

It generates millions of versions of original IP that hasn’t be “legally” provided or compensated for.

That data is used to train the AI and potentially sold onto other sub companies on the open AI or black market 🤷🏾‍♂️

Super important discussion to have an question to ask and I am really glad you asked it.

AI in itself isn’t particularly bad. It’s the application of it. There is a hard push for it to be implemented into everything by force.

Right!? Corporate greed at it's finest. I definitely don't want to be just another voice complaining into the void. But I really want to be part of active conversations to flip this script, it's definitely fuelling my fire. That goood games development can happen without AI.

All these new titles launching and not even hiding generative AI, the worst part about it they're launching in genre's that haven't had anything unique for a while. Sure, visuals look good. But developmentally and morally, it's a nightmare.

Yes! They did use AI for the voices, and both teams benefit from each other work. Frustrating and just disheartening to see.

Unfortunately, both games and teams share development resources 🤦🏾‍♂️ worst choice ever.

Pretty much the status quo for me also! And it's just not even worth the investment. Thankfully, there are still game developers and publishers out there doing good things.

Have I stopped playing? Immediately! Uninstalled with a refund to steam pending. Transparency is important to me.

While ARC Raiders has boasted some technical prowess.
I can't in good conscience support a studio profiting from through AI development that causes wider harm to the games industry.

I would argue they did a lot of things right. But choosing to use AI to with the excuse of "faster iteration" just doesn't cut it. VO's can take minutes to second to record or re-record, depending on talent. I'd know, I do it for a living.

I was to be 100% transparent here.

Did I play ARC Raiders? Yes I have 70hrs worth to be exact. My choice to distance myself from the franchise isn't because @arcraiders.bsky.social DEV is entirely bad.
