Used to have an office over a pub in a village. One of my co-workers was super chuffed with himself for buying one of the first tiny folding e-bikes. "Come here to me: I can keep it the boot. Then, after a good session, I can just ride that home instead of the car! Now I can have 5 or 6 pints!"

The ads were more geared to the village pub goer. They lowered the legal blood-alcohol limit for driving to ~ one pint, which was a rural pub killer. So people walked on dark, narrow rural roads, wearing, as the Irish do, mostly dark clothes. They really just wanted people to call for a ride.

At Christmas time in Ireland, when the pub season is in full swing, there used to be "Don't drink and walk" ads on TV. (there were a higher number of pedestrian fatalities when drinking, but...still, really...)

Aptly, and ironically named. The only fury that will be epic is the long term repercussions of this misadventure.

And apologies to spotted hyenas (they're just doing what they do), this is an unfortunate insult to them to be compared to the men in this grotesque little club of super and not-so-super villains.

A group of bloody faced hyenas tearing apart the body of some unlucky animal, OR an allegory for a cabal of blood-thirsty, greedy, corrupt men in dubiously-got leadership positions feasting on the remains of something they no doubt stole.

Oh gosh yeah. Nobody's there for fun. In a weird way, if you think you're having a bad day or feeling sorry for yourself, just strike up a conversation with a patient or family member.

Things Doug Ford acknowledges in no real order: The Leafs, "Wobbly Pops", Skidoos, Business, Football, Betting, Casinos, BBQing, Chevy Tahoe, Randy, maybe Rob, Tunnels, Florida, Cottage, Ring of Fire.

Raymond Moriyama is not among them.

But I'll happily watch your doc, thanks for the link!

This is conservative, grade 12 drug dealer math we're talking about. *Someone* stands to make at least that much money developing the OSC lands.

Is it just me, or is taking the electorate for complete and utter fools a defining feature of conservative politicians in Canada?

I mean, just because they themselves, and whoever they surround themselves with, think the idea is buyable/saleable, are they daft enough to think the rest of us will?

humans as the effectors, and instead have to design things with "automated", "ai", "technology" this and that. I design this stuff and the longer I do, the more I realize that new technologies are rarely the solution; that better human organization probably is.

Right now, I would love for some of the people in my life to be able to use a self driving vehicle to get to their appointments or take them shopping. But those people need way more than just a lift. Why is it that, when we're designing services, it's just not appealing to design them with good old

No, you can't cut the lid off of a jar with a kitchen knife no matter how much that makes sense to you at that moment. And if you can't that, there is a high likelihood you won't be able to manage navigating a self driving vehicle, the mobile phone, the payment app, the online banking either.

jam jar using a large kitchen knife. A lifetime of learned heuristics and what designers call "affordances" that we take for granted seems to fade and become almost useless with new technologies, particularly where there is cognitive decline. I think a small bus is maybe best. With a helpful driver.

with the built, particularly digitally augmented, world. Self driving vehicles will be no different. Despite their best efforts to automate, banks still have tellers for a reason. Transpose the friction in that interaction to physical movement from place to place. The bus driver still gets out...

I used to think that enabling mobility was one of (the only?) upside to self driving cars. But now that I have oldies in my life, I don't think these technologies are going to help. The more I see, the more I realize that older people need another human to assist in most interactions...
