In 2011, a cable-laying vessel hit bad weather off the Gulf of Mexico. This caused its anchor to drag along the sea floor and damage a gas pipeline below.

Work on Poland’s first offshore wind farm, Baltic Power, developed by Orlen and Canada’s Northland Power Inc, is well underway, 5 of the 76 turbines installed as of early August. The 1.2 GW site is scheduled for completion in 2026.

RWE is a significant way through the construction of Thor #offshorewind farm in Denmark, with half of the 72 monopile foundations now installed. The site is 22 km off the west coast of Jutland, in the North Sea, and is expected to reach completion in 2027.

The first turbine has recently been installed at the site of East Anglia Three, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the #windfarm. Developed by ScottishPower Renewables, there will be 95 turbine towers, capable of powering over 1.3 million homes.

Subsea cement and fabric formworks are used to support pipelines and cables, to make sure offshore wind turbines are secure and able to withstand the harsh offshore environment, and to decommission oil wells safely which have come to the end of their lives.

The Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, a joint project between PGE and Ørsted, is currently under development in Poland. Comprised of 2 sites, Baltica 2 and 3, it will have a total installed capacity of 2.5GW and will be capable of powering around 4 million homes.

The first offshore #windfarm was built over 20 years ago. In 1991, Vindeby Wind Farm was installed off the coast of Denmark. It comprised of 11 wind turbines, which each had a hub height of 37.5m (about 1/3 the height of Big Ben), and a rotor diameter of 35m.
