I’m trying—

Really—

Trying to see the beauty

In a world where people

I trusted

Have broken my soul.

A flower’s blush.

A sparrow’s hop.

Blackberries ripening on the stem.

Yet the scowl reaped upon me

Is deep.

A poem about desire and meaningful connection gradually becoming love, maybe.

Could the writer be suggesting that her awareness of the ‘sweetness’ of their love is only possible once the ‘other’ has engaged thoughtfully. That her love can be shared once longing is mutual, meaningful & lasting??
