The student loans crisis is a national scandal.
Graduates are being trapped by what are essentially loan-shark terms, fuelling injustice and deepening generational inequality.
This system isn’t just broken - it’s built to burden young people.

"Reputational risk" features 4 separate times *IN BOLD* in the due diligence checklist of today's first set of released Mandelson files.
It’s impossible that Starmer didn’t see these warnings - he must apologise for initially proclaiming ignorance.

Tonight, I voted to defend our jury system.
Jury trials are a fundamental right and undermining them threatens the foundations of our democracy.

Pleasure to speak at last night's Arise: A Festival of Left Ideas online meeting - Women for Palestine!
To celebrate #IWD26, this event brought together powerful voices from across the labour movement.
You can listen to my contribution from 2:56-10:18 👇

The Government admits there’s a risk of increased racial bias – yet plans to review the impact on ethnic minorities after the reforms take effect.
Reckless. Irresponsible. Dangerous.
Justice needs juries.

Great to speak at the @rmtunion.bsky.social Women’s Conference in Liverpool.
The #ActionAgainstAssaults campaign is vital - no worker should be treated as second-class and no woman should choose between safety and livelihood. Proud that women’s rights are at the heart of our agenda.
Black people have long been some of Labour's most loyal voters - but that loyalty is being undermined by decisions that deepen inequality.
Racial injustice isn't abstract; it's happening right now. Labour has a responsibility to fix it, not fuel it.

I’ve signed @ianbyrnemp.bsky.social's EDM on ticket pricing in football.
We are sending a clear message to Premier League clubs – football without fans is nothing.
Stop raising ticket prices.
Stop pricing supporters out of the game.

14 years of cuts. Stations gone. 12,000 firefighter jobs lost. Services stretched to breaking point.
Enough is enough.
@fbunational.bsky.social’s Cuts Kill campaign is our fight to reverse the damage and secure the reinvestment needed to build a fire service worthy of the future 🚒🔥
The conversation about housing is all wrong - it’s time to flip the narrative.
The housing emergency is driven by decades of underinvestment in affordable social homes, not by people seeking safety.
It’s time to build more homes & stop scapegoating migrants. You can help change the conversation.
The BBC deserves every bit of criticism here – it should never have been broadcast.
How is it that ‘Free Palestine’ can be censored, but the n-word was allowed to initially be aired?
It doesn’t add up. Serious questions need answering.

Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent and 40 days of preparation for Easter.
Wishing everyone observing this season blessings, peace and a meaningful time of reflection with loved ones and your faith.
Representation, not red tape ❌
Today, thanks to the Employment Rights Act, most of the Tories' 2016 Trade Union Act is repealed, removing restrictions designed to tie unions up in knots.
Our unions can now focus on what they do best - organising to win better pay & conditions!
Ramadan Mubarak to all celebrating across Liverpool and beyond.
May this blessed time bring peace, happiness and prosperity to you, your family and friends 🌙✨
Happy #LunarNewYear to those celebrating in Liverpool and around the world!
May the Year of the Horse bring you strength & great success 🐎
Always proud that Liverpool is home to Europe’s oldest Chinese community.

"It has been ten years since the Supreme Court admitted that the law on joint enterprise had ‘taken a wrong turn."
As we mark ten years since the Jogee ruling, I’ve written in @justicegap.bsky.social about why justice cannot wait another ten years 👇

The Cabinet Office is “assembling the facts” about the actions of its own Minister - how on earth is that independent?
This is unacceptable. We need a fully independent investigation, not a process they run and control themselves.

The decision to proscribe PA under terrorism law has been ruled unlawful by the High Court today.
I was proud to vote against the proscription of PA. Our right to protest is under sustained attack & it must be protected. The government must not appeal.

I was honoured to open @rmtunion.bsky.social's Health and Safety Conference in Liverpool this morning.
Violence is not – and should never be – "part of the job."
I am committed to ending the outsourcing racket that’s undermining safety, equality and the future of our railways.
Had an inspiring afternoon with the African Caribbean Society at @liverpooluni.bsky.social for their Breaking Barriers event last week ✨
It was a privilege to share my journey into Parliament & to discuss the challenges, the breakthroughs & importance of Black voices across these spaces.
“Enjoying mafia movies doesn’t make me a killer. So be wary of the state using rap music to prove murder”
Shami Chakrabarti is absolutely right - creative expression must be protected from misuse in our justice system.

It’s #HeartUnions Week 2026!
Being in a union gave me a voice at work – now I use mine in Parliament to fight for workers' rights.
I’m proud to have voted for the Employment Rights Act, the biggest upgrade in employment rights in a generation ❤️🌹

Lovely visit to M&S L1 last week to catch up with store manager Margaret & hear about how the amazing team is getting on.
It was also a pleasure to meet Jean, who recently celebrated 40 years at M&S!
Such a warm, welcoming team at M&S L1 - it really does feel like a family.

Powerful APPG on Miscarriages of Justice event hearing from Oliver Campbell, Peter Sullivan & Justin Plummer – three wrongly convicted men who spent a total of 77 years in prison.
Their stories show a system failing people twice: convicting the innocent & abandoning them after release.
Looking forward to chairing this really important event in Parliament this evening.
The ‘unconscionable cruelty’ of current arrangements for miscarriage of justice compensation must end.
