Eloine & Ypsmael Of DelusionsLP £18 Nowt as cliched as a tip of the hat to Satan for Chocolate Monk's 666th release. Instead we have something far darker, the sound of two cracked minds trying to locate their inner black boxes via the medium of live electro-acoustic scrambling & rummaging. Murky fruit indeed. Proof if any were needed that symptoms such as resonant spring clang and sine wave skittering can lead to delirium which in turn can make you mistake the cosmic veil for a handkerchief and duly expel nasal mucus upon it. "Of Delusions documents the final two performances from the Ypsmael / Eloine UK tour in autumn 2023. By that point, the strain of hauling suitcases with invented instruments, pedals and half-working electroacoustic junk across the country via public transit and through the rain had taken its toll. A couple of power supplies had burned out, parts of Eloine’s tabletop setup were damaged beyond quick repair. Ypsmael’s was an unstable mess nearly collapsing on itself from the start. After a few beers with Dylan, our moorings in Brighton (and our ceremonial, torchbearing, cowl-sporting host for this very 666th Monk release), we went into autopilot mode. The Bee's Mouth setup was in the dark basement performance space of a busy dive near the waterfront.Cramped and with little light, electronics and other sound making implements were knocked off our tables early in the set. The following night in Glasgow, we performed above a noisy bar called the Old Hairdressers. Flooding on the train lines and motorway had prevented our originally scheduled co-performers from making it from Edinburgh. Ceremonially limited 12" LP version in mixed colours on recycled vinyl (each unique) produced via Meersburg’s soundindex. Artwork by Ian Pyper, screenprinting by Bryan Day. Edition of 100.
