Yeah. If he was another Trudeau we'd have to suffer through several more years of right wing anti-Trudeau smear campaigns. That was exhausting, and depressingly effective.

Covering sessions daily at the Commission on the Status of Women this week, one question keeps coming up for me:
How can responsible media better amplify the institutions trying to address global crises?
Too often we are not meeting the moment β€” we are being entertained by it.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus & @DrTed...β€’ 6h
Global military expenditure just hit $2.7 trillion - in a single year.
According to @UN estimates, ending world hunger by 2030 would require $93 billion annually.
That means we spend almost 30 times more every year on killing each other than on making sure everyone eats.

This is Director of WHO. And that’s exactly the point I’m trying to make all day every day this week.

Urge Minister Michel: stop Alberta's two-tier health care law

Alberta has passed Bill 11, allowing doctors to charge unlimited fees at for-profit clinics. This is American-style health care, and if Alberta succeeds, other provinces will follow.
I just sent a letter urging action to stop two-tier health care from spreading. Join me: share.nwmd.social/s/xBFLQHr7

Alberta is mostly good people too, just like the rest of Canada. We just have a higher proportion of ignorant assholes than most of the country.

Trump has no interest in actually running those countries. He just wants to install pre-purchased sycophants who are willing to help him loot their own countries as much as he's already doing to the US.

This reads to me more like a mother expressing sadness that her daughter is growing up too fast. Just last night I told my kitten that it was against the rules for him to grow up. I don't see anything sinister in her post without more context.

In what way is Poilievre comparable to Trudeau?
Trudeau's unpopularity was a result of a successful smear campaign. PP is unpopular because people are figuring out he's just a grjfting rage farmer with no substance who hasn't contributed anything of value to Canadian politics in his entire career.

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.

We mustn’t let this war do so.

In addition: how in the world can you sorry the actions of the US to "prevent Iran from gaining a mucked weapon" when it was the US that ripped up Iran's nuclear deal? Are you nativee or did you just forget? YOU ARE BACKING THE BAD GUYS AND IT'S OBVIOUS.

Unfortunately, I'm certain Bibi is hoping they will. "Preventive attack"? Bullshit. These warmongers never pull the trigger without gleefully loading for the next shot.

Wow. Terrible position, @mark-carney.bsky.social . We musn't support US or Israeli aggression in any way. Iran is clearly not the primary threat in that region and hasn't been for a long time. We need to condemn these attacks, not support the illegal wars of a hostile regime. This πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ is displeased.

Danielle Smith is doubling the debt, with nothing to show for it. YouTube video by Naheed Nenshi

The UCP squandered Alberta’s near-record resource wealth and still produced a $9.4 -billion deficitβ€”a failure of basic financial management.

Somehow, under some of strongest economic conditions in a generation, life is going to cost you more.

Unfortunately, I really agree with this. @naheednenshi.bsky.social we badly need you to step up and find a way to break through with, not just your messaging, but your vision. It's not just about our province - our whole country needs the Alberta NDP to shine now.

This App Warns You if Someone Is Wearing Smart Glasses Nearby The creator of Nearby Glasses made the app after reading 404 Media's coverage of how people are using Meta's Ray-Bans smartglasses to film people without their knowledge or consent. β€œI consider it to ...

This is cool as hell: An app designed to ping people about nearby smartglasses.

Also cool: The creator was inspired by @404media.co coverage, a great illustration of why their journalism is so essential. This kind of work is funded by paid subscribers so become one of those if you can.

Danielle Smith Is No Separatist. She’s Much Worse | The Tyee The premier’s referendum plan is destructive, divisive and ultimately evil.

β€œShe is the most dangerous politician in Canada, launching not only an agenda of fear and greed, but one that seeks to undermine the country, its federal structure and its spirit of tolerance and compassion.”

Green-filtered photo of a stethoscope on a map of north America. Text reads: "New Report Debunks Claim That Bill 11 Is "European" Health Care. Read our response: friendsofmedicare.org/news"

The Alberta government keeps trying to defend & downplay the impact of Bill 11 by cherry-picking examples from Europe & elsewhere. But a new report from @alonghurst.bsky.social at @policyalternatives.ca debunks all that.

Bill 11 = Americanized health care!

IF YOU'RE UNEMPLOYED IT'S NOT BECAUSE THERE ISNT ANY WORK
JUST LOOK AROUND: A HOUSING SHORTAGE, CRIME, POLLUTION; WE NEED BETTER SCHOOLS AND PARKS.
WHATEVER OUR NEEDS, THEY ALL REQUIRE WORK.
AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE UNSATISFIED NEEDS, THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE.
SO ASK YOURSELE, WHAT KIND OF WORLD HAS WORK BUT NO JOBS. IT'S A WORLD WHERE WORK IS NOT RELATED TO SATISFYING OUR NEEDS, WORLD WHERE WORK IS ONLY RELATED TO SATISFYING THE PROFIT NEEDS OF BUSINESS.
THIS COUNTRY WAS NOT BUILT BY THE HUGE CORPORATIONS OR GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES.
IT WAS BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO WORK. AND, IT IS WORKING PEOPLE WHO SHOULD CONTROL THE WORK TO BE DONE. YET, AS LONG AS EMPLOYMENT IS TIED TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROFITS, THE WORK WONT GET DONE.

I approve of Carney, and I'm glad to hear of this project, but given the project started in 2023 it sounds more like Trudeau's success than Carney's.

Still positive news, though.

Honestly the fine needs to be higher. I'm at the point where I think people who do stunts like this need a MINIMUM fine that also includes environmental cleanup community service. Stick to pink and blue filled cakes if one must do the tacky gender reveal thing.
