04.03.2026 16:34 β π 15 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0nxthompson posted: This is a distressing story about Trump's attempts to impede Thomas Massie's efforts to release the Epstein files: As the House moved toward a vote on releasing the Epstein files last summer and fall, the White House and top Trump allies launched an effort to forestall it that lawmakers told me was unprecedented in its intensity and scope. Massie called it a "360-pressure campaign," one felt not just by him and his staff but anyone associated with him. One tactic he had not experienced before: Some of his key staff members were suddenly offered more prestigious jobs in the Trump administration or more lucrative jobs in the private sector-the idea being that if Massie no longer had a full staff, he couldn't pursue ambitious legislation. Massie recalled asking an employee who, a few weeks before the vote, had received an employment offer that would double his salary: "Did it ever occur to you that they might be offering you this job to basically make me less effective?" He said the young man sheepishly replied: "That's what my mom said." He turned down the offer and finished writing the bill.
Congressman Thomas Massie is one of two House members who have been pushing hard for a full release of the Epstein files. The Trump administration pushed back, as we know, & went as far as to offer Massie's staff lucrative jobs to understaff him & deprive him of their expertise. They're desperate.
04.03.2026 15:56 β π 11 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0You know, you're supposed to check the tyre pressure regularly anyway, and you can do so for free at every petrol station. I don't need this sensor, thank you.

The πͺπΈ PM responded to Trumpβs threats of a trade embargo: βSome will say that this is naive. What is naive is to think that violence is the solution. Or to think that blind & servile obedience is leadershipβ
Super π The tyre pressure one really gets me. It also kicks off when you drive up or down a curb too fast. I mean, you can literally check your tyre pressure for free at every petrol station. I don't need this thing in my car!
04.03.2026 15:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Considering that nobody needs, say, a tyre pressure sensor when you can check your tyre pressure for free at every petrol station: absolutely.
04.03.2026 14:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also true. There are few good (if any) reasons for going to war, but I kinda hoped they would not think they're on reality TV.

What kills me about the whole US govt is that they're not even socialised to pretend they're empathetic. You know, like we do when we meet an acquaintance who tells us about a rainy holiday, & we go: Oh dear, I'm so sorry. - Because not doing so would be nasty & offensive.
They're all anti-social.
Not necessarily. The last time, the warning light for the tyre pressure came on. So I think: Oops, there's a problem with
a) the tyres, or
b) the air in them.
Nope. Turns out the sensor that measures the tyre pressure was defect. The tyres were totally fine.
Oh dear.
04.03.2026 14:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I tell ya. Of three repairs, two were for sensors that do not impact on the performance or functionality of the car. It's a bit absurd.

"Today we have awarded the Order of Civil Merit to Gisèle Pelicot.
She made shame change sides and transformed silence into collective awareness."
My repair shop has just 'fixed' our car by deleting the error codes in its memory, and told me to come back should they reappear.
That must be the car-version of 'switching it off, switching it on'.

2/2 ... to prevent a collapse of tax/health/social services/pension systems.
This policy is irresponsible & damaging to the country. Not to speak of its soul.
Fmr Australian Migration Officer here. This is a terrible, short-sighted, counterproductive strategy. Migration needs reliance. No-one will re-settle their lives & family based on an unsettled status. We are all ageing societies. The UK, too, requires skilled labour, & in sizeable numbers ... 1/2
04.03.2026 09:18 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Indeed, it's so much that happens domestically that remains unreported or gets lost in translation.
04.03.2026 08:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As so very often (& you hint at this quite rightly), politicians are more controversial at home than abroad. I had to smile when Trump said Merz enjoyed high popularity ratings, bc from his 4th month in office they have been spectacularly low & consistently so.
