This is a big problem if the US wants to claim high ground on creating a democracy where there isn't one. We have lost the rest of the world as a leader in this regard. We don't set an example, we only carry a big stick.
A country doesn't have to be majority Muslim to be "not democratic". Christianity has seen it's share of monarchies & authoritarians. US Christian Nationalism is attempting to inflict "correct behavior" on the entire population without care for the Constitution. US is a democracy in danger.
Good question. The middle east has been a conundrum forever. It's not just that countries have theocracies, there is infighting among the sects. Some are also tribal w/tribal chiefs having more sway than central government. Plus US has lost any high ground for setting an example of a good democracy.
If not for Netanyahu he would likely already be looking for an off ramp to claim victory. He's finding out there isn't support here for this war. It's just another promise broken. Netanyahu will keep goading him and telling him how shameful it would be for him to "lose".

He reminds me of my now retired minister. He walks the walk, doesn't just talk the talk. He believes in the separation of Church and State but lets his Christian ethics and morals infuse his politics. Nothing wrong with letting compassion for the poor and marginalized work it's magic.
I'm voting Yes. GOP is so very whiny about this. At least Virginians get to vote unlike you know, some of those other states.

I might agree if he hasn't already been serving in an elected position and he is running on the same issues that he supported in the Texas legislature. I do understand the skepticism. That said, for a Democrat to win in Texas they will have to broaden their voter base.
The only thing I find off about him is how different he is than the other politicians calling themselves Christian when they are actually hate filled, judgemental, racist jerks who do not live Christian values at all. There has been so much of this that it's easy to understand skepticism. I get it.
Your choice. He has been in the Texas legislature focusing on public education funding, voting rights, and healthcare access. If his personal faith makes him focus on these things in his political life it's not performative. It's a good thing in my opinion, not a red flag but we have choice.
Saying he focuses on faith is misleading. He has said over & over that he is committed to the seperation of Church & State & has criticized GOP for not doing to that. His politics are influenced by his faith which makes him compassionate towards ALL humans. If you think that's bad, vote GOP.
Today is a good day for a loving kindness meditation. Start with yourself, then move to sending health, happiness, safety and ease to someone (pets can work too) you love, then those you are neutral towards & finally to those who you find it more "difficult" to love. Love is the only way. Namaste.
