This really hits close to home—after 4-5 years in China/Chinese Studies circles, I’ve seen more than a few students pivot to/fixate on Taiwan for all the wrong (mostly problematic) reasons... (Ironically I've wanted to write about this in the broader context of Western scholarship on East Asia)

(1/3) I’ve recently spent a lot of time reflecting on the #TaiwanPlus controversy. Sadly, it isn't that shocking to me. For many #Taiwan scholars and watchers, this is symptomatic of a much deeper problem... When I used to host the Oxford Taiwan Reading Group, we discussed it EVERY session.
