Ha - it would be around 1989 on a Saturday or even a Bank Holiday as I only bet in non handicaps back then. I know I got just shy of £200 which was a fortune to a 15yo!

Once got a goliath up as a lad from the spotform, forecast fav and SF system. Happy days - shame it was for 2p stakes!

There’s also a big problem with perception. Asked a couple of relatives who like racing what % of jump horses are killed racing and both said 15-20%. Not the real figure of 0.5% That’s where the ‘come back safe’ narrative gets you. People think we expect jumpers to be killed in races, not a rarity.

Can see both sides of the whip ban/don’t ban. All I will say is I’ve been racing a fair bit in Norway where the whip is banned and it didn’t take anything away from the racing.

Wonder if Constitution Hill runs in the Fighting Fifth at all after that gallop? Has drifted to 5/6 for it if he does….
