A colorful mushroom rises from the earth among moss, lichen, and a combination of fir and cedar duff. Its stipe has a gorgeous gradient that starts as orange at the base, fades to yellow near the middle, and then fades to green underneath the cap. The cap starts as a light green around the edges and quickly turns to a dark emerald green towards the top. Its shiny cap reflects the light between the trees in the canopy above it.

I think this might be the prettiest parrot mushroom I've found in Oregon 🤩🦜🍄

Agree! That said, slime molds like this one are in their own kingdom, Protista, separate from fungi! 🙂

Growing on an Alder wood chip, a slime mold grows with a white, mucousy-looking base where the beginning of their white stalks (or feet) are beginning to appear. They're topped with little pink ovals. Each one measures approximately half of a millimeter tall.

I find it fascinating how different slime molds look at different stages. This is the White-footed Slime in an earlier pinkish stage!

That's one thing I miss about living in California, the parrots go crazy there in some places! 🦜🎨🍄

Three shiny yellow and green mushrooms grow together in a row. The two tallest ones sit on the sides while a tiny one sits in the middle. They grow around a dark brown stick that has moss growing on and around it.

I love this trio of parrot mushrooms! Featuring the last one I shared on the right side. I love how green the tiny one is!

Two mushrooms with very roughly textured stipes and caps grow out of dark green moss. Both the stipes and caps have these almost spiky looking darker-orange protrusions sticking out of them.

We'll take a quick break from posting parrot mushrooms to enjoy these scaly Pholiota among dark green moss

A short mushroom, standing about one inch tall, emerges from bits of decaying leaves. Its stipe is yellow, smooth and shiny. Its cap is very round, very shiny, and bright green. Reflections of the forest and sky above make vertical bright streaks on the glass-like cap.

This is a photo of a mushroom with a bendy yellow stipe and green cap. Its stipe bends from the bottom left corner of the frame to the center, where the cap appears. The stipe and cap are very shiny and reflect the mushrooms surroundings. Bits of moss and fir needles litter the ground around it.

That is a very strange AI interpretation of parrot mushrooms 😅

A slender and somewhat tall mushroom grows out of dark damp soil. Its stipe and cap are the same golden yellow color. The stipe appears slightly transparent. The cap is circular, flared out, and a bit flat, but isn't very large. Reflections of light can be seen on the cap due to its viscous nature.

I'm back from my parrot mushroom trip and have tons of photos. I got a couple done last night, so here's the first one we found!

In macro photography, a single photo can leave you with a depth of field measured in millimeters. Stacking is the process of taking as many photos needed to produce a set where each shows a unique slice of an object in focus. You use software to blend them, creating an entirely in-focus image.

At the base of a dark brown green stump, over 20 spiky mushrooms grow squeezed together in a large beautiful cluster. Their flesh is a very light brown, nearly white, and their sharp, pointy scaled are an orange-ish brown.

This cluster of Sharp-scaly (or maybe just Scaly) Pholiota caught my eye and pulled me in. A mesmerizing sight!
