Trauma recovery means affirming to ourselves, over & over, in little & big ways: I will prioritize self-respect, in what I say to myself & how I behave toward myself, every day, in every way I realistically can-- whether or not I've been programmed to believe I "deserve" it.

I think I understand why there's so much disagreement and confusion within the autistic community.

Most of our disagreements come down to different philosophical perspectives, not different views on how autistic people should be treated or how important it is for autistic people to be supported.

Our trauma conditioning is going to try to confuse us about our need for rest. It'll try to convince us we don't have "permission" to rest-- so the only response to exhaustion is to quit.

Be prepared for this very common bullsh*t tactic. See through it.

Just for today, speak to yourself w/ warmth & realism (no, they're not incompatible, no matter what Trauma Brain says). Try it on. Consider compassionate self-talk a recovery tool you're experimenting w/.

No pressure, no rush. You're developing a tool. No more, no less.

The trauma recovery tool of self-compassion is never going to lead you to perform worse or give you an "excuse" to not try or quit.

If it leads you to take your foot off the gas, it means your foot needed to come off the gas for a sec, in order to sustain your performance.

Abuse enablers make excuses. Survivors in recovery make goals. Live your life in such a way there's no doubt which you are.

I don't eat "breakfast food" that often since I wake up later, so I'm usually eating leftover meals or mini-dinner. 😂

If you introduce yourself by saying, "I don't mean to be rude but...." then proceed to ask a very uncomfortable, immature, and insecure-driven question you didn't mean well in the first place and you wanted the person to feel "humbled". You wanted to embarrass someone who was minding they buisness.

This one is (fortunately) a little less niche than it was two years ago, but we really need to stop calling abusive people things like “narcissist” or “sociopath” or “psychopath.”

These directly stigmatize people with Cluster B personality disorders, who are literally survivors of abuse/neglect.

It is perfectly fine to not love identifying as a "trauma survivor" in "recovery." Don't sweat the label.

Call yourself a human who wants to live a stable life of meaning & accomplishment-- who needs specific skills & tools to do so, that happen to overlap w/ trauma recovery.

The tension of being the only functional adult in your family can become, over time, a complex traumatic stressor-- especially if you've been the only functional adult in multiple versions of your family, going back to childhood.

Parentification is a form of neglect.

You get to decide how "big a deal" you "should" consider your symptoms & experiences to be-- but pay attention to Trauma Brain trying to minimize & invalidate what you need.

It's not "dramatic" or "stupid" to need specific tools & support for specific symptoms & struggles.
