As gigs in empty livestock sheds go, it was one of the best!

The Nightingales, who have never let me down in five decades of live performances. Tonight they filled The Portland Arms with sounds unlike any other group. Awright!
I’m amazed that anyone would still know that name, but yes!
When I first wrote to the address on the back of Hand in Glove, I mentioned how changeable Dave’s opinions could be in print (he’d given The Smiths a particularly glowing live review recently) and there’s a mention of him in the reply I received.
The contrast between the two photographs is striking - the formality of the studio sitting and the loose spontaneity of the street portrait. K says she looks so contemporary and could be in a shoegaze band in the second!

Likewise, the best show I’ve seen in Norwich’s atmosphere-free cavern of a venue (Epic Studio).
Many tears brought to our eyes throughout.

Ex-Farmer’s Boys! Saw Baz the singer at the weekend and Ed the drummer lives 2 doors away.
Still have the album with the snake man poster folded inside!
Bill & Tony went on to form The Screaming Blue Messiahs, probably the best live band in the UK at the time.
