As gigs in empty livestock sheds go, it was one of the best!
I particularly enjoyed The Blue Orchids, Virgin Prunes and The Higsons.

Gorillaz - Delirium ft. Mark E Smith YouTube video by Gorillaz

It’s been good to hear the gaffer’s voice on a new song again today, if only briefly.

If there’s one group who I will never tire of, it’s @nightingalesuk.bsky.social and if you’re lucky enough to see them on this tour, be assured you’re witnessing the best band in the land on those tiny stages!

7 of the 10, and still have every one of the little buggers (along with 500 other 7”s)!

One of my proudest moments, an actual Peel Session! And that was me, announcing each song in the Maida Vale Studios.
Bizarrely, I’m working with Stan from the FBs right now, performing some of his outsider pop tunes from the last few years.
Thank you for remembering! X

The Nightingales, who have never let me down in five decades of live performances. Tonight they filled The Portland Arms with sounds unlike any other group. Awright!

I’m amazed that anyone would still know that name, but yes!

When I first wrote to the address on the back of Hand in Glove, I mentioned how changeable Dave’s opinions could be in print (he’d given The Smiths a particularly glowing live review recently) and there’s a mention of him in the reply I received.

The contrast between the two photographs is striking - the formality of the studio sitting and the loose spontaneity of the street portrait. K says she looks so contemporary and could be in a shoegaze band in the second!
Thanks for these, Nick.

I didn’t. I read that CSM review and was quite glad! It’s become one of those legendary shows and I’m rather envious now!

Thank you Des. You don’t realise how important some snaps will turn out to be at the time - another shot from this show graces the cover of Slates Live!

My photo from the same spot at the same show (albeit on a tiny half-frame compact camera).

Also worth mentioning on #FallFriday that Andy played on the album Levitate!
Though he now has no idea which songs feature him.

Likewise, the best show I’ve seen in Norwich’s atmosphere-free cavern of a venue (Epic Studio).
Many tears brought to our eyes throughout.

One of the most remarkable episodes of a brilliant series. Marc had so many incredible stories, thanks for bringing them to our ears!

Still have the album with the snake man poster folded inside!
Bill & Tony went on to form The Screaming Blue Messiahs, probably the best live band in the UK at the time.
