Timeline Unpacking the Draft HPE Curriculum: A PENZ Perspective Heemi McDonald

Why the secrecy and lack of involvement, despite PENZ (Physical Education New Zealand) subject association's requests? aecnz.substack.com/p/timeline-u...

PE is more than just sport and uses a wider context physical activity ( that includes sporting contexts) to teach in through and about movement. This draft curriculum focuses mostly on “in movement.” Something the NZPE community has worked hard to address to ensure all students are included.

PE also not great. Reduced to a narrow performative approach based around traditional sport. Will be exclusive focusing on those who like and are good at sport. There is a phrase that comes to mind that we hoped had gone. If it moves, measure it

Well worth a watch and listen. Echoing others comments, miss her leadership but really happy she is following a path that still adds value to our world.

As an ex-physical educator, I saw the huge positive impact that Outdoor Education had on students. Allocating different value to school subjects is not useful and begins to narrow curriculum in a world where we need innovative thinking and action. our.actionstation.org.nz/petitions/ke...

Playful or harmful? David Seymour’s posts raise questions about what’s OK to say online

An important read to give voice to Alex and his life. I have requested that @rnzrss.bsky.social take the article down, not expecting that they will but needed to push back in some small way. A young persons life matters - but needs to be their authentic life.

I said what I said. And I’m sorry... sort of OPINION: Choreographed fragility and weaponised offence from female MPs over my use of a rude word has served as a distraction from their own actions.

OPINION: I’m sorry that politicians and the media spent last week focusing on my potty mouth and not the terrible injustice that is being done to care-workers, nurses, teachers and other underpaid women, Andrea Vance writes.

#2 They were a well-researched, co-constructed, with young people set of guidelines. Schools needed to consult with the community about what was being taught. Does Winstone think he knows better than parents of young people and young people themselves?

Winston's war on woke moves into the classroom The NZ First leader has claimed victory as sex-ed guidelines are removed, while the Opposition says his focus on diversity and relationships imitates the US president.

How does a party/person who received 6% of the vote in the 2023 election get to say what can and cannot be taught in schools? They are not sex-ed guidelines- they are Relationships and Sexuality guidelines. Shows a lack of media investigation. Do better Stuff www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

Nutritionist finds list of issues after visiting Auckland schools delivering lunch programme Checkpoint obtained an email that was sent to Ministry of Education officials by a Ka Ora, Ka Ako Nutritionist after they visited some Auckland schools.

We endorse the comments by nutritionists and others that are critical of the new school lunch menu. Good food choices lead to better health outcomes. Food literacy for rangatahi is an important part of growing into healthy adults.

‘Where’s the line? It’s an absurd line’: towards a framework for acceptable uses of AI in assessment As higher education grapples with ensuring assessment validity in an increasingly AI-populated time, institutions and educators are working to establish appropriate boundaries for AI use. However, ...

Anne Salmond: Hunger Games in the Beehive Comment: Radical libertarian ideologies are generating extreme inequality and ripping the social fabric of NZ, writes Anne Salmond. Don’t we want to be a place where talent wants to live?

“The National Party seems to have lost its sense of decency, and any idea about how to run the country for all New Zealanders.”

Another clear, concise and impassioned opinion piece by Dame Anne Salmond.
