Headlines don’t sell papes, Newsies sell papes!
(the 8y.o. asked for a Newsies themed birthday and tbh, it was the best.)
Two weeks into a new program that gives New Mexico children free childcare, officials are opening up about the surge that happened day one & how it’s been moving forward. In just a short time, the state said thousands of children are now enrolled in free childcare, & daycares are lining up to join.
This whole thing has been like watching a train wreck happen in slow motion.
Just gotta keep breathing.
Notably, this announcement will be made the DAY AFTER the election where the mayor who appoints the CEO and the board is on the ballot . . .
So! many!!! And honestly I saw so few repeats.
"CLEVELAND CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT will lose $10,345,392 in federal funding."
(...and despite the last levy, is an estimated $4m in the hole as we start the year, thanks to federal and state cuts. It's looking bad out here, y'all.)
Oh em gee congratulations!!!
Sometimes I have to remember that whatever ideas I have for *how* I have to show up are likely less important to any of the folks involved than the critical act of *actually* showing up even though it feels hard.
UH is union-busting…and our beloved pediatrician, Dr. Beene, was removed from her practice as a result. Workers have the right to organize…and we sure miss Dr. Beene.

oh my gosh, best good girl! She's so precious.
anyway. things are hard and awful and beautiful and being human is a hell of a thing.
I have to wait 6 months to see the neurologist, but my kids come back from their grandparents house and they smell like dirt and chlorine and sunscreen and sweat, and it's like inhaling summer each time they snuggle me.
Our king size mattress died and so we had to swap it for a spare queen we had in one of the attic guest rooms and it is a lot smaller but it means when I am fundamentally exhausted at the end of the day I can feel the weight of my partner next to me in bed and hear him breathing.
I am anxious and a mess and struggling? And also there has been the kind of breeze this week that makes summer in Ohio so lovely. Last week, I got to be with friends at the beach and watch a new generation of friends form amongst our kids.
We got fresh peaches in our market share last week and I bit one and the juice literally ran down my chin into the sink and the whole stupid world is on FIRE and also oh my god I am alive right now and eating this peach !!!
I have had some health things this year (I am okay, the world has continued to move) and a thing I am both embarrassed by and grateful for is the ways in which the uncertainty and waiting have made me feel more aware. I dunno how, but I feel both more distracted and more present in wild turns.

Oh, love this one!!
I have been married to @newertkrocker.bsky.social for 14 years today. Spending my life with him is the greatest joy. I am so grateful we get to keep choosing each other.
in the heat of the night, too. I feel like there are probably several southern thrillers that fit here
heatwave gets you some interesting old ones: cat on a hot tin roof, rear window, some like it hot, 12 angry men
Heat, heatwave, eco-pocalypse? This covers like...mad max and also waterworld but also wet hot american summer, so maybe too broad.
He has more than one song??
