Pitch only one book, not the series. And choose one genre, the one that represents what bookshelf it would be on in the bookstore. It can't be one multiple shelves, so where would readers find it? That's what genre you pitch it in.

Metadata includes: age category, genre, word count, and target audience (if applicable). This is the basic data that lets agents know if they even rep the project you're querying to them. Without this info, we may be wasting our time reading the sample, so it's better to just pass than risk it.

Query "mistakes" I don't care about: typos, using the wrong name, accidentally using the wrong pronoun or salutation, no comps provided, an amateur book blurb, or lack of personalization about why you chose me.

Query mistakes I actually care about: Submitting in an audience category I don't rep, submitting in a genre I don't rep, not telling me about the plot of your story, no providing metadata, going way over or under established wordcounts, or submitting an early draft not beta read by others.

if waiting on agents to read your full and get back to you (while balancing clients, personal schedules, etc) is too difficult, the submission process is going to be excruciating.

Is it okay to nudge? Of course. But keep your emotions in check. If you're losing it after 3-6 months of not hearing from an agent, how are you going to handle 1+ years of no response from editors once you're on sub? I know it's hard, but be cool, calm, and collected. #querytip #writers #amquerying

You can withdraw and requery. The only time there's a down side to that is when I've already started reading your manuscript, but I think QT might show if I've opened it or not? Sorry, I can't say for sure if I've seen yours yet. There are very few I'm in the middle of reading, so chances are good.
