I'm deeply saddened by the death of Pope Francis, he was a saint in my eyes, although I'm not Catholic. This article by Jim Wallis was spot on.

Also, Octavia Butler's the Parable of the Sower and the Parable of the Talents. She eerily predicted a dystopian America where the government was run by a radical Christian authoritarian sect. It is probably banned too.
