Recently, Wildlife Rescue admitted a gull who had a tracker attached to them, used by researchers and scientists to study movements and migrations.

The gull had migrated to the Lower Mainland all the way from Alaska! And has already travelled quite a distance since release.

This Glaucous-winged Gull was struggling to survive with a plastic cup wedged on their beak.

Thankfully, our skilled Rescue Volunteer was able to quickly capture and bring this gull to our Wildlife Hospital.

The cup left deep cuts, but with treatment and care, this brave bird is healing well!

This juvenile Snow Goose was found in a backyard after being attacked by a predator.

Did you know that adult Snow Geese have two different colour morphs? A single gene determines if their feathering will be blueish-black or white!

Two campers were surprised to find this Western Toad in their cooler upon arriving home. 🐸

Following observation and care at Wildlife Rescue to ensure the toad was healthy, they were driven back to the location where they were found and were safely released back to the wild.

#Year-round Hummingbird Feeder Guide - Wildlife Rescue Association of BC If you decide to offer a hummingbird feeder, it's essential for the birds’ safety to maintain it following the recommended guidelines all year round.

If you're unsure if you're able to commit to this or if you're going on vacation at all, we recommend taking the feeder down to minimize the chance of disease spread or freezing. For more information feel free to reference our blog post: www.wildliferescue.ca/2024/01/29/y...

Anna's Hummingbirds remain in the lower mainland year-round however, their natural food sources do reduce during winter. If you decide to keep your feeder, it's important to closely monitor it, clean it regularly, and ensure that it doesn't freeze (which it sounds like you're doing a great job at!).

Guess the bird feet! 🐦️👣

Although they swim like a duck, American Coots do not have webbed feet. Instead, they have lobes on their toes that help them kick through the water. The lobes fold back each time the bird lifts their foot, so that they can walk on dry land and on softer, mucky ground.

This #Anna'sHummingbird was caught in netting. She exhausted her energy reserves trying to escape and was left extremely lethargic and barely able to fly.

The bird was diagnosed with low blood sugar, given sugar water, and placed on oxygen overnight. She's slowly regaining her strength!

All kinds of wildlife situations are reported to Wildlife Rescue, this is one of the more unusual cases! 🦆

This Mallard seemed to have a stick impaled in his side. We had prepared to send him for surgery but the medical team found the stick was actually stuck around him, like a harness!
