Itβs chilly today isnβt it!! The heating has gone out in our building so weβre solely supported by these little guys, theyβve got their work cut out for them haha

09.01.2025 20:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hello Bluesky friends! I took a break from social media over the festive season but Iβm pleased to be back π Hereβs my current fiction read. Iβm really enjoying it so far which is no surprise to me since I adored Song of Achilles by the same author
07.01.2025 19:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes it really is a different experience, though Iβm a paperback person myself - I love cracking the spine!
05.12.2024 20:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh thatβs such a shame, some of those poems hit like a brick shattering a window. I think mental health professionals, especially those in inpatient services, would benefit from connecting with her words π
I do usually post a few of my favourites on my Instagram when I post my review though!
I finished this poetry collection by Louise Campbell today. Incredibly powerful and moving poems of Louiseβs lived experience of being both a Mental Health Nurse and an inpatient in a psychiatric hospital.
Iβll post a review on my Instagram (The Psych Library) soon.
A space is available in this long-term reflective practice group.

04.12.2024 19:26 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy Spotify Wrapped Day to those who celebrate! Itβs one of my favourite days in the year, I just love seeing my listening data. The curated playlists are like little musical time capsules of your year π₯Ί

Proud to have been part of such a great day at New College Lanarkshire. Thank you for asking me to be a guest speaker at today's conference alongside fantastic talks from Julie Webster, @gavinbrewis.bsky.social and Darren McGarvey
Lifelong learning is one of my favourite things about a career in Clinical Psychology. Itβs a reality thatβs often exciting, sometimes overwhelming but always rewarding in the end

Itβs more likely that they have enough ego strength to tolerate the emotional demand of therapy. Also *may* then safeguard against a relapse during therapy. Since substance use can be a way to dissociate from pain, use between sessions may impede emotional processing.

26.11.2024 20:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I much prefer physical books and I love that itβs a screen-free activity for me. With memoirs though, I often opt for audiobooks as I find it so powerful to hear the authors tell their own story
26.11.2024 19:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Our wider service works in partnership with drug and alcohol services to support engagement. To be considered for psych therapy though, thereβs a general rule of thumb of abstinence for 6-12 months. Not an official policy as far as I know and does involve more thinking e.g. extent of use etc.
25.11.2024 21:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Many online reviews are from people who have found comfort in the book, having struggled with OCD themselves. I would absolutely recommend this to certain patients/clients
25.11.2024 21:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Key thoughts: this is an intimate, poignant and evocative read. Lily sheds light on the various manifestations of OCD that go beyond the dominant narrative of cleanliness or contamination anxieties. I was moved by her courage and honesty and her experiences brought me closer to those I work with
25.11.2024 21:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I just posted my review of Lily Baileyβs memoir βBecause We Are Bad: OCD and a Girl Lost in Thoughtβ over on my Instagram. Link below:

Thrillers or reads under 200 pages! I also get slumpy at this time of year and I remind myself that most of nature βrestsβ in winter so itβs okay for me to rest and step away from reading for a bit too πͺ·
