Its because it takes a lot more skill to write a sitcom without the canned laughter then with it, as WITHOUT it, the actions of characters become less comedic and more questionable.
Without canned laughter a lot of sitcoms make it VERY HARD to sympathsise with the characters in it, ahahaha
