🚨 $ASTS and Vodafone submitted a joint response to the Call for Input: Future use of the 2 GHz MSS band from Ofcom (British FCC). 🚨 In it, they highlight the business strategy of super wholesale. This inclusiveness to other EU MNOs, in addition to just not being Elon, is a key differentiator in the AST application for 2GHz. Both are key reasons AST/SatCo will sign the other premier EU MNOs and receive an allocation of 2GHz MSS. 🧵1/3

How successful is this approach? Well, as of the submission date (September 2025), they note SatCo has signed MOIs with 6 EU MNO's representing 220 million subscribers. With their bent pipe transparent architechture, ASTs approach is G agnostic. This means, when 6G is released, the orbiting satellites will be capable of providing this service. Numerous parties are advocating for native non terrestrial support in 6G (see comment section for post yesterday that shows EU working document on Digital networks act thinks NTN is native to 6G).

They explicitly spell out technical speeds they expect with 2GHz. Should get 3 bits/hz DL and 1.5 bits/hz UL. MIMO brings the DL speeds to 6 bits/hz. They can do this full frequency reuse!! I read this as no need for a color reuse pattern to avoid interference, though might need a @CatSE___ApeX___ peer review.

Some nice content worth sharing from Xitter for $ASTS. The 3rd photo showing claims of 3 bits/hz currently for downlink and up to 6 bits/hz in the future when MIMO is enabled! Spectral efficiency at these levels is INSANELY GOOD for a space based design. Will be tough to match it let alone beat it.

Starlink will only provide texts and picture messages with 3000+ of their current satellites.
