Our youngest moko arrives soon. He’s staying the weekend while his parents are away 🥳
Countries that have adopted electric vehicles the fastest will suffer the least from oil price spikes caused by the US/Israel attack on Iran.
NZ is not one of those, thanks to Luxon’s poor leadership.
And, Luxon’s lot are now going to kill the Clean Car Standard.
At a time when fuel prices are rising and emissions have to come down.
It’s a pattern and it benefits big business while the rest of us pay the price.

Buses also need fuel of course; while I don't know specifics for other cities, about a quarter of the bus fleet in Christchurch is electric, and and while the rest need diesel its still more fuel efficient than those passengers each taking a car
Obviously there's a cost to the state in fully funding public transport, but as we learned during the pandemic, the state can actually find the money they need during a crisis
Owning a car has expenses beyond fuel; insurance, registration, WOF, maintenance. So public transport is cheaper overall if you don't own a car, but if you're paying all those other expenses anyway, there's no financial incentive to leave your car at home and take a bus
A great way to conserve fuel at a society wide level would be making buses free
Busing in Christchurch is $6 a day and even at $3 a litre, petrol will allow you to travel 20km or more depending on fuel efficiency, so if you own a car it's still the economical option for most people
Equal in my book. The 3 coalition parties are renegades at this point, they’re actively working against the interests of NZ, all trying push through policies for donors in a way that dilutes democracy, destroys lives, livelihoods and the environment but lines the pockets of the most avaricious.
Nicola Wills has done a glamour shoot soft interview with Luke Malpass about the fuel crisis, I skimmed and saw a swipe at vaccine acquisition during Covid and I am more convinced than ever at her taking a run at leader either before or after election. Nats see this as a way to win I reckon #NZPol
Doesn't take much reading between the lines to figure out why building an 'AI Datacentre' in Southland is a hilariously stupid idea, right up there with LNG facilities and canceling ferry contracts

Worked in that world for many years, the public, the health heirachy and the government have no idea what a complex, out of support, under supported, half finished projects mess our public health IT systems are in.
I'm so over conservatives telling us they'll fix a problem they caused
And obviously not ever fixing it

It’s laughable, so wedded to oil and gas they can’t be the authors of any viable solution.
A government that at every step has made us more reliant on foreign fossil fuels...
Ours can’t even say they loathe Luxon out loud in part because he’s Key’s man and they love Key. It’s so irrational. They blame ACT for all National’s woes.
"it's really important that we be able to listen to diverse perspectives. now read the weekly screeching of this gleefully malfeasant fraudster for the 15th year running"
"we'd rather not"
"WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM OF SPEECH??!?!??!"
"why are people losing trust in media?"
"you're putting misinformation in your headlines, again"
"SHUT UP! I SAID, WHY ARE PEOPLE LOSING TRUST IN MEDIA??!??!?!"
Stuff at this point are basically the media Fawlty Towers: while it is still a functioning entity that serves a vital purpose, their inability for introspection combined with sheer loathing for their audience is palpable
To understand Wellington you have to understand how deeply and profoundly the whole city fucking loves the central library
Reopening today after a near-decade of earthquake repair/strengthening
Growing homelessness and this is what Chris Bishop does? It beggars belief and should have seen him stripped of the housing portfolio but such is the moral deficit in the Government and media it gets shouted once and then gets filed under ‘so what’.
My "in New Zealand, cars are citizens" theory of politics remains absolutely undefeated.
I didn’t want to give Malpass any mileage but here it is www.thepost.co.nz/politics/360...
I know, WTAF.
Go @greens.org.nz say this every week loud as you can til election day.
And all through any stages of the fuel crisis traffic light announcements

yeah that's the thing - convince folks their money is going to good things and a lot of people would be happier to pay more
we can all do good with individual donations but the size of government means that tax money can do more at scale if applied well
we should absolutely raise taxes on rich people and corporations both because it can help pay for the safety net and because reducing their power is a social good in and of itself
but "nobody else pays taxes" is not going to work
We've opposed them, talked about them, decried them this whole time. We said this would lead to a rise in antisemitism AND Islamophobia.
We aren't surprised. We're terrified.
The anti-Zionist Jews in your life are all freaking out because we knew this would happen. We warned this would happen. We've been scared of this happening. On some level, since forever. On another level, since October 7 2023.
You don't need to tell us about Israel's government's crimes. We know.
