Episode 49: The Millionaire Next Door
In 1996, two marketing professors revealed the characteristics of America's new elite class: They buy the right kind of watch, marry the right kind of wife and were born the right kind of white.
LOVE how many people are getting introduced to @michaelhobbes.bsky.social for the first time via this @volts.wtf episode.
Next: a small army of energy nerds get radicalised (complimentary) by Maintenance Phase & @ifbookspod.bsky.social. Maybe even make the jump to @fivefourpod.bsky.social...
OMG David, this is so relevant to my interests. I regularly listen to both Volts.wtf and @ifbookspod.bsky.social . Downloaded.
30.01.2026 21:50 β π 15 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0This month's bonus episode is about Olivia Nuzzi: her rise to the top of political media, her FaceTime sex with RFK Jr., and her awful new book.
29.01.2026 16:12 β π 218 π 14 π¬ 30 π 26This was simultaneously hilarious and damning examination of the shoddiness of Isaacsonβs work. Itβs something we came across multiple times in reporting our own book and factchecking it against his.

How about podcasts or video games? If Books Could Kill. The two hosts have really good banter and conversation. They review famous airport books, these bestseller airport books, often a memoir or self-help books. I donβt know if thereβs much fiction work thatβs on there. They break them down, debunk them, or roast them in a way. A lot of it is like, Do they need a book? A Bit Fruity. Matt Bernstein is the host. He is really intelligent. Thereβs political episodes, thereβs pop-culture episodes. Iβve learned a lot listening to it. Itβs a great way for me to keep up with whatβs going on in the world but in a way thatβs a little bit broader than something like The Daily, which I always love and listen to. Matt is in his 20s, and he makes it a very educational listen while also not feeling like youβre being lectured in any way. Itβs a good blend. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Iβm playing now and loving it.
Streets are saying If Books Could Kill is the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 of podcasts
