A double panorama of the current state of my studio. (I couldn't quite squeeze everything in a single shot)
I'm having fun with these 'painting bookshelf spacers'.
Thank you for reminding me of this amazing song.
“The bishop ignores his dog standing on the trashcan next to his desk” 24” x 48” watercolor on canvas 2026
"Truckee River murder house, Reno, Nevada" 5" x 5" encaustic on panel, framed 2025.
I did a series of these a few year back , with the intention of having them be used as "bookcase spacers".
still counts. I try to always work alla prima. but if the painting is larger that three feet, sometimes it's physically impossible to do so. It works well for you
alla prima makes it much more impressive.
the "horse on the outskirts" is marvelous.
'winging it' is my baseline.
working in handmade watercolors on a chalk gessoed canvas is giving me mad scientist vibes. not to mention super messy.

love the pose in the smaller painting on the left.
Never saw this one before, Pepa. thanks!
stunning.
huzzah!
I like the luminous quality the colors get in watercolor, but I have never liked how fragile the painting is if it's large and on paper. Also, I prefer mixing my own colors from raw pigments and gum arabic (and honey). I can load the pigments into the medium for more intensity.
