I like the luminous quality the colors get in watercolor, but I have never liked how fragile the painting is if it's large and on paper. Also, I prefer mixing my own colors from raw pigments and gum arabic (and honey). I can load the pigments into the medium for more intensity.

Guitarist John Fahey (born today in 1939 in Washington, DC) has a singular recording legacy – especially his output during the 1960s. His initial three albums are landmarks: Blind Joe Death; The Dance of Death & Other Plantation Favorites; & The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death. Fahey died in 2001

The usual suspects, post Graphic Novel panel. Gary Phillips and I look like we're about to throw down and Dale Berry looks like he's trying very hard not to giggle.

Painting of a clearing surrounded by dense forest in New Zealand with a pool in the foreground. In the centre a moa, a giant ostrich-like bird, is lying dead on it's back with it's feet in the air. Gathered around in mourning are numerous other birds native to New Zealand, including three kākāpo (large green parrots) in the left foreground, three kōtuku (great egrets) stand in the pool, two kiwi, a weka, three pukeko (blue rails) and a pair of huia (black birds with long beaks also now extinct) on the ground, a small flock of tūī (dark irridescent birds with a tuft of white feathers on their chins) fly in from the right, and above a pair of kea are flying and squawking at each other. Also looking on from among the foliage are numerous little human-like figures, the Patupaiarehe, with one in foreground holding an axe and riding on a tuatara.

#WyrdWednesday 'Te tangi o te moa' (Death of a moa) by Trevor Lloyd (1907), depicting the last of the Moa, giant flightless birds which lived in New Zealand until they were hunted to extinction, recently died & surrounded by mourning native birds & patupaiarehe, fairy-like folk from Māori folklore.
