CBS: If you could tell the American public the US definitively did not bomb that elementary school in Iran, you would tell us, wouldn't you?

HEGSETH: I would say it's being investigated, which is the only answer I'm prepared to give

A thread about ECCC.

I know ICC gets asked for at this show sometimes, and we did used to do it annually. But there’s a reason we stopped.

The moment I realized that evangelical-style spanking seems uncomfortably sexual because IT IS IN FACT UNCOMFORTABLY SEXUAL I had a whole new revelation about why I had to reject evangelical Christianity.

The fingerprints of conservative Christians are not on the crime scenes because conservative Christians had a hunch. The fingerprints of conservative Christians are on the crime scenes because they were accomplices, enablers, and many times the abusers themselves.

They understood it because they helped create it. James Dobson’s advice was peddled by Jeffrey Epstein for a reason.

So. You do *not* need to "hand it" to evangelicals or purity culture for anything.

Do Won Chang and Jin Sook, who owned Forever 21, are evangelical Christians. Robert Brooks, who owned Hooters, was a Methodist. Joe Francis and Hunter Moore are alumni of private Christian schools. In the 2010s, 75 percent of starting NFL quarterbacks were evangelical Christians.

Tom DeLonge learned guitar at church camp. Coachella is owned by a conservative evangelical. The world's second-largest presenter of live music and entertainment events, after Live Nation, is owned by a conservative evangelical.

Just a few examples: Katy Perry was a CCM artist. Britney Spears grew up Southern Baptist. Jessica Simpson was given a purity ring by her minister father. Justin Timberlake is the child of a Baptist church choir director. Christina Aguilera is a Mormon homeschool alum.

I completely disagree with this premise. It dangerously absolves conservative Christians for their intimate involvement in creating the 1990s/2000s Teen Culture.

Purity culture *is* pedophilia and rape culture. It inherently sexualizes children, keeps them ignorant and controlled, and victim-blames them when they are abused. There's nothing redemptive or protective about it.

Part of how we got here is that a bunch of our elites in industries like global finance in particular lacked the imagination to think about what Trump was actually capable of

This is nothing new. Vietnam obviously was also a civil war by proxy. The normal state of the Anglo-American regime is a cold civil war, which often goes hot in the periphery.
The American Revolution was another such case

But the only other way to this, short of bombing Brooklyn which I don't recommend and wouldn't even solve the problem, is a complete erasure of the US diplomatic establishment. Sorry FSO frens.

It gets better. Vietnam reflects the same dynamic as the American Revolution. I think it’s very possible that the human once known as Curtis Yarvin has just been replaced by a first gen chat bot that just spits out mad libs in the style of Mencius Moldbug

OTOH, it's useful that JD Vance's muse is confirming that Trump-Vance-MAGA see continuity between their desire for militaristic aggression against the enemy abroad and the enemy at home (us). They *would* bomb Brooklyn if they could (they already committed paramilitary murder in Minneapolis).

Maybe it’s just me following literary trends, but I feel like **my own writing** tends to be better in first person present, so I use that a vp/tense a lot. But when I’m reading, I’m very agnostic about it, if it’s working I don’t much care.

This is very funny to me because my werewolf series (not romance genre) is written in first person present tense, and I’ve had people say β€œoh, I just can’t deal with those I-I-I books”

Agree. This NYT story also notes that a family member of the teens who are now in β€œdetention” reached out to Rep. Joaquin Castro pleading for help to get them released. Castro of course is a Dem from TX. I hope the GOP Rep who put a 🎯 on their backs β€”a supporter of 47 β€” is β€œrethinking” her choices🫠

Is there **any** amount of grandly fucking everything up that will hurt Republicans in any meaningful or lasting way? Or will it go like George W. Bush: people get mad enough to elect Democrats for a couple of cycles but quickly snap back into their old ways and start a new Tea Party?

Worth remembering, reading the absolute horror show that Pixar was under Lasseter, that he was unemployed because of this for a grand total of 6 months before Larry Ellison put him in charge of an animation company again, presumably to recreate this nightmare atmosphere there. Still has that job btw

But also, that evaluation is based on seeing how effective the affordability pitch was for Mamdani, so we have more data. And I think maybe it’s starting to penetrate: the next Dem POTUS candidate needs to seem like they’re going to do something about affordability.

An affordability focus would have allowed her to make a pitch like β€œunder Biden we avoided a post-Covid economic collapse, which is good, but things also got very expensive and less affordable, so now we need to address that, here’s my plan…”
