This is why, among other things, I think the prospect of nuclear escalation is very real. He can more readily manifest for himself and the people around him some set of facts showing greater brute force is needed than navigate a careful path back out of the literal minefield he blundered into.
And this is a huge issue for the whole world because this is TRUMP’S ONLY TACTIC. He can’t solve anything, can’t understand anything, can’t out-negotiate anyone. He has no capacity to end a war. He will just keep making increasingly delusional pronouncements in an attempt to manifest reality.
It turns out you can make people see many things that do not exist at all - scary things, good things. You can claim that you have absolute power as president and many courts will agree rather than challenge you.
You cannot, however, declare a seaway safe and have it become so!
Trump’s power and by extension his entire movement are built around the idea that by asserting something you manifest it in reality. Even if it’s not true many people will behave as if is so you can get away with it.
It is alarmingly effective in law, domestic politics. It cannot unblock a strait.

Trump is just throwing a couple of random bits of bigotry into his voter suppression bill because he estimates, accurately, that Republicans like everything more if it's got a little bigotry in it. He has the number of his supporters, for sure.
Trump is doing real harm to a much broader swath of Americans (and people around the world) this time around than in his first term. That's making him less popular, and making the people who don't like him hate him harder.
Journalistic practice is responsive to both of those trends.

Gotta say that this is some extremely creepy language. And the argument basically is... that if the prevent people from treating gender dysphoria (adults, in this case), that they'll just... stop having it? That's not at all how any of this works.
I wish I believed this will happen, but I think the NYT editors are, like Trump, incapable of shame.
And the numbers absolutely support my contention that, given the rate of non-investigation of abuse, the massive cracks in the system, and the strong social incentives toward family harmony, that over half of adults are almost certainly victims of profound abuse whether they ID as such or not
Like, I had the personal trauma then I looked at the facts
The abuse of children, the suppression of their individuality and personalities, and the manipulation and control of people well into adulthood based on the idea that family is a kind of ownership of people is completely normalized
Child abuse is probably the crime that is most frequently gotten away with and almost certainly the crime that is most justified by society, out of all crimes
Hurting your kids? You’re almost guaranteed to get away with it and a lot of people will laud you for it

We're happy to be quoted here, but when we joined the lawsuit against Trump's illegal tariffs almost a year ago, it wasn't about the money. It was about fighting Trump's fascist agenda and his unending grift.
