Tom DeLonge learned guitar at church camp. Coachella is owned by a conservative evangelical. The world's second-largest presenter of live music and entertainment events, after Live Nation, is owned by a conservative evangelical.

Just a few examples: Katy Perry was a CCM artist. Britney Spears grew up Southern Baptist. Jessica Simpson was given a purity ring by her minister father. Justin Timberlake is the child of a Baptist church choir director. Christina Aguilera is a Mormon homeschool alum.

I completely disagree with this premise. It dangerously absolves conservative Christians for their intimate involvement in creating the 1990s/2000s Teen Culture.

Purity culture *is* pedophilia and rape culture. It inherently sexualizes children, keeps them ignorant and controlled, and victim-blames them when they are abused. There's nothing redemptive or protective about it.

Maybe it’s just me following literary trends, but I feel like **my own writing** tends to be better in first person present, so I use that a vp/tense a lot. But when I’m reading, I’m very agnostic about it, if it’s working I don’t much care.

This is very funny to me because my werewolf series (not romance genre) is written in first person present tense, and I’ve had people say “oh, I just can’t deal with those I-I-I books”

An affordability focus would have allowed her to make a pitch like “under Biden we avoided a post-Covid economic collapse, which is good, but things also got very expensive and less affordable, so now we need to address that, here’s my plan…”
