On this day in 1410, the joint forces of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland triumphed at the Battle of #Grunwald (Žalgiris), one of medieval Europe’s largest battles. The victory affirmed their place in Europe and still echoes in how we shape our region today.

Many, at least in Europe, have probably heard about the Kaunas "Žalgiris" basketball club and few have heard about the Vilnius "Žalgiris" football club. These clubs are named in honor of the Battle of Grunwald, because Grunwald is translated into Lithuanian as Žalgiris.

OTD in 1410, the joint Lithuanian and Polish army led by Vytautas the Great defeated the army of the Teutonic Order in the Battle of Grunwald. To commemorate the battle, Lithuanian painter Jolita Levčenkienė painted a triptych, each part 130 cm. ✖️ 420 cm., titled "The Day That Changed History".
