The Quaking of America: An Embodied Guide to Navigating Our Nation's Upheaval and Racial Reckoning An Embodied Guide to Navigating Our Nation's Upheaval and Racial Reckoning

I've sort of been preparing, by reading post-apocalyptic and apocalyptic fiction since 2016, but I didn't really expect that the fall of the United States might start in Minnesota. Here's a link to buy the book: bookshop.org/p/books/the-...

I'm reading The Quaking of America, by @resmaa.bsky.social

"The Reckoning is here.

I live in a time of great peril and great possibility.

I do not and cannot know what will emerge.

As the future unfolds, I will act from the best parts of myself."

Duluth snow artist pays tribute to Renee Good Former School Board member Harry Welty is known for his front-yard snow sculptures, which can sometimes get political.

Duluth, MN. There's a paywall, so you might not be able to read the story, sorry about that.

"Do you want to unwind by watching movies where innocent people get thrown into detention centers or abducted from their homes by masked government agents or slaughtered by domestically deployed shock troops? Does that feel like 'horror' to you, or does it feel like news? I’m genuinely asking."

You mean the company that's currently being struck by its workers and the company that's currently being boycotted because of its terrible DEI policy rollbacks? Why not just call this the Chocolate Mint Racist Scab Frostie?

Honestly, until like the 1970s or 1980s, people have held the attitude that adult men having sex with teenagers is "normal" and "biologically wired." They still believe it, they just learned to stop talking about it openly at some point.

I am genuinely confused about why people think that the Epstein files will make a difference.

I’m so sorry about that. I feel like the trans and gender-expansive singers that I have sung with are really contributing to the community, and making the singing better. I hope you’re able to make more connections with people who want to sing with you. They’re out there.

Somewhere in my 50s for me - but I still don’t feel like an adult all the time.

Opinion | Civility Is a Fantasy

"Calling for civility is about exerting power. It is a way of reminding the powerless that they exist at the will of those in power and should act accordingly. It is a demand for control." -Roxane Gay. Gift article. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/24/o...

How To Be A Resilient Writer First and floormoose,1 I have a book that comes out in two weeks. It’s called Lessons in Magic and Disaster and it’s about a witch named Jamie who decides to...

"...that there is such a thing as a “through” - that eventually, we’ll come out the other end. And I'm no longer quite so sure that is the case. Instead, I think we need to talk about the long haul. The wandering in the wilderness without a clear endpoint in sight."

It's kind of refreshing to have somebody come out and say it:

"... But that ain’t why “we” lost. It’s time for this country to reckon with the real reason America lost with one indisputable fact:
More people wanted Donald Trump as president."

How Could the Scientists Bringing the Dire Wolf Back From Extinction Mess This Part Up? Come on, do you even know your Game of Thrones lore?

The tyranny of gender and a direwolf called Khaleesi: they couldn't call it "Ghost" because IT'S A GIRL DIREWOLF.

Yes, there are certainly other atheists at Sacred Harp singings already. Having some kind of emotional connection to the songs is helpful (like nostalgia for singing in church when you were growing up), but you can also find meaning in the words even if it's not exactly what you believe.

I once could mourn o'er dying men, and longed their souls to win
I travailed for their poor children, and warned them of their sin
But now my heart's so careless grown, although they're drowned in vice
My bowels o'er them cease to yearn, my tears have left mine eyes.
(2012 Cooper Book, #67, verse 4)

There's no exit ramp from a shutdown, but there's also no exit ramp from going along with each successively more terrible thing that the Republicans do, because it could be even worse.

I said I know a shutdown is going to be awful, and possibly give Trump more power to wreck things -- BUT THEY'RE DOING IT ANYWAY. Isn't it better if they have to do it without support from Democratic senators?

I failed to save a copy of what I wrote, and it vanishes as soon as you submit through the email form. I'm sure it was very eloquent (just kidding).

Email Amy - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar

Minnesotans: It sounds like Amy Klobuchar may be voting with Republicans and Schumer to support the continuing resolution. DC and Mpls offices lines were busy, but the Rochester office line was taking messages: 507-288-5321.

I have quite a lot of days where I don't buy anything, so this is not going to be too difficult. It seems worth a shot. And yes, it's nice to have a good visual.

What Kind of Person to Be In an Age of Collapse I’m Umair Haque, and this is The Issue: an independent, nonpartisan, subscriber-supported publication. Our job is to give you the freshest, deepest, no-holds-barred insight about the issues that matte...

"You have to be the adult in the room now.
...
Which is scary as hell."

Umair goes long, I usually sort of skim through. But I generally agree with him.

(Being a camp counselor is a good way to work on being the adult in the room. That's how I learned it.)
