If you’d like to renew your faith in humanity, volunteer at the Pasadena Community Job Center on Lake Ave. ❤️Volunteers & organizers supporting those in need & supporting one another. Folks dropping off supplies, food, water, even pet food. California is a beautiful place because of its people.

I had to turn off my tv and gave a glass of wine (maybe more😉) Fuck him. He should never step foot in California.

Everyone hustles here. Mariachis congregate not too far away, awaiting customers. What other neighborhoods have that?! These are things that make a neighborhood colorful. Let’s brace ourselves and look out for one another for we do not know what’s to come.

The birria from the truck parked on the busy boulevard is delicious. The bakeries emit the beautiful smell of freshly baked pan dulce. Such a contrast to the poisonous emissions from all the freeways that surround this neighborhood. Dogs bark as residents leave early to their jobs.

This is simply a change of the times. An immigrant neighborhood once less congested with single family homes, is now dense with no street parking. I can get melancholic about the change but then I remember that there are taco stands in every direction.

The parking lot is nearly empty. Just next door to the high school is the brick Catholic elementary school that I attended. It’s small but has a very nice layout with the top floor as the residence for the nuns that taught there. There are no longer any nuns. The school enrollment is minuscule.

I sit at the window of my childhood home and look out to the park across the street. It is now corralled with a chain link fence. As kids we ran through the field of grass chasing butterflies. Just across from the park is the large parking lot to the all-boys Catholic high school. (1)

A drive through Pasadena and your faith in humanity is restored. So much goodness when one decides to work in community. Young people doing clean up, older people offering meals, parents and kids organizing donation tables.... and they are everywhere. ❤️

While Mexico sends firefighters to help fight fires in Los Angeles County, Kern County is sending ICE to go after migrants. Mexico never fails to help in disasters. They are good neighbors. Migrant workers volunteering to remove debris, fallen trees, branches in Pasadena & Altadena is proof (1/2)
