Athena is one of the "secret" characters that will finally be available in the 1.0 update/steam launch, her moveset is a little different from the first time I showed her :)

story mode is separated into 42 chapters, but you don't have to read them all in order, most of the time, you'll have multiple chapters to choose from, based on what you've read so far :)

Here's some gameplay of one of the new secret characters, Athena! She has good long range options with her 214x and 22x, and a strong pressure option with her 236B/C, which sets a spellcard on the ground that activates an attack when the opponent touches it :)
