A three-part graphic showing observations of Wolf-Rayet 140, two massive stars with 17 dust shells around them. An inset appears at right, showing a portion of the two observations matched up to show that the arced dust has moved.

WR 140 has been observed before by JWST on July 2022 (pic a).
The craziest thing is, by comparing it to the updated image (pic b), you can actually see the dust rings getting farther away from the star, at almost 1% the speed of light.

Strangely my first thought when I saw this was Edvard Munch. Don’t take that negatively but something in my extremely tired state just instantly went there

Beautiful. I remember that operation. That’s when we met I think … well that and the follow up appointment. I’m really glad our families met, though better circumstances would have been nice.
