Welcome to a gimmick account dedicated to the Dark Horse Comic character Concrete, created by Paul Chadwick. This will hopefully be a jumping on point for people to discover this series. #comics #darkhorse #indie Main @adahnflorence.bsky.social

Killer Smile is all around such a unique arc in Concrete, another demonstration of the series' and character's simultaneously versatility and ability to anchor itself to something so utterly different.

"The Dictator's Dream" is the first really great of these 100 Horrors stories. It feels very Twilight Zone/Outer Limits-esque in how the surreal, abstract subject matter holds heavy social commentary. It's great, really.

While "Jack O' Fingers" is a fun, concise and freakish little horror concept, I couldn't stop thinking about the possibility that Paul Chadwick was trying to do like a morbid parody of Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin.

I hate to keep saying "in a good way" but I mean it when I say there's a juvenile quality to the story with visuals that feel dreamed out of a kid's imagination. It's very appropriate that it ends with the implication that it was all a student's daydreaming. Fun little tale all around. 🧡 End.

"The Ugly Boy" kind of feels like a story aimed at a younger audience, in a good way. We're now at something a bit more substantial than a one page story, and it's pretty fun and honestly sillier than scary.🧡

One of Tom Adams' Raymond Chandler novel covers, maybe, collectively, his crowning achievement.

Now we begin Paul Chadwick's included "100 Horrors" short story series. Starting with a single page, he hits the ground running a body horror born out overthinking worse case scenarios. It makes literal the idea of it being like a plague.

Just a nice short story all around, and it even features Ron's trademark overthinking by the end just to make for a good joke to tie the tale together. I may give this a reread around the holiday season.🧡 end

The little glimpses into Larry's home life are relatable, with characters getting to exhibit recognizable mannerisms and behaviors despite not getting alot of actual dialogue to work with. It helps to also give Ron a good scene where he stands up for Larry, it's nice.🧡

Alot of that definitely comes from Ron's internal narration. His sentimentality and ability to capture the specific emotions the holidays invoke really just sort of transports you there. It's sweet, like the reading equivalent to a nice warm blanket.🧡

"American Christmas" despite feeling out of place in this trade manages to still invoke the feelings of it's holiday subject matter on par with it's Halloween equivalent. It just puts me in that festive mood despite is not being quite there yet 🧡

Wanted to share today a generous donation made by user Michael Rookard on Discord. This is apparently a bookplate included in select copies of The Complete Concrete collection. It's said to be signed but I can't seem to find it on this copy. If that's the case, I hope Paul does conventions

So that was Friday Sept 26th 2025. Crikey. Another day done, another (more or less) here. So it goes.

(Released this very month in 1988, a mere 37 years ago, the ninth -and characteristically excellent- issue of Paul Chadwick’s Concrete.)

& so to bed. Sleep well, fellow citizens of Planet Earth.

sketchy drawing of myself at a cash register, gesturing tiredly.

I really tried to avoid this, but I'm in need of help. I'm a year and a half out of full time work, and my retail gig alone can't keep me afloat. My October expenses are going to be much higher than normal.

I'm offering sketch comms over on my ko-fi for donations. thank you

Framing it all through Ron's narration and point view gives it a unique and more intimate quality than I'm use to from the disconnected narrative, and it ties into the ending very satisfyingly. It's a good read.🧡 end.

Without risking posting too much, Paul writes a fairly compelling pedestrian scale conflict in a manner of a few short pages after a seemingly unrelated setup prior to it. It's very, real. It's uncomfortable, tragic and relatable in all of its parts.🧡

The heavier shading on Concrete and thick black outlines really make him stand out against a lot of the scenery and other characters and balancing of the three colors present really helps to make everything look so visually distinct. I love the look of it all.🧡
