Everything feels quite bleak atm. Economies in the bin, Europe a mess, trump, climate. As a small struggling business owner I'd like to find some optimism but struggling.

And owing HMRC 2 million (allegedly) how does that even happen? Must admit I'm not 'business' enough to understand how you can get away with not filing accounts etc.

Anyone (especially in brewing) feeling optimistic for 2025? This year has been savage.

Try selling and buying beer in the french Alps! People are selling pints of peroni for 10€ therefore our beer 'has' to be 11€. These bars are doing absolutely insane margins on lager and just fleecing tourists.

But no one seems to care and the locals get priced out.

Might become a Landlord influencer in 2025. In the style of all the Guinness ones who are surely on the Diageo payroll.

Roll up to some excellent West Yorkshire pub on a Lime Bike and chin some delicious pints.

Probably more money in it than actually being a brewery owner too.

I live in Bourg Saint Maurice which is at 800m so generally snow clear most of the year but we have a funicular straight into les arcs

This is kinda part of the problem. Strong Belgian beers are seen as a reference as 'good'. Not modern lighter hop forward styles.

Anecdotally I know sales are down across the board on all beer. I've heard this from big brewers and distribution. Our sales being 10% down is considered 'good'. This year has been terrible weather, Olympics and an election plus cost of living issues. I think Heineken are cutting losses.

Around my area (the Alps) not crazy although I think back in the day was a much bigger dog. Nowadays Asahi are being really aggressive on winning lines with their lager range.
