Technically an autism diagnosis is covered here. But, there is only 1 doctor doing through normal coverage in a city of 1.5 million people (ignoring the fact that most of southern Alberta would also have to come here for that). My ADHD dx was transformative, helping me understand myself better.

Yes. The Patriarchy definitely has an influence in that. That makes it surprising that they actually missed me. I was in my 40’s when I was diagnosed with ADHD. I’m still waiting on an autism assessment. I am positive I have it, but it’s very hard to get a diagnosis as an adult here in Alberta.

Yes. Women and girls tend to be better at masking, that interferes with noticing that they have autism.

My daughter (12) is autistic. She never lets me hug or kiss her. I know that she adores me though. She always wants to discuss the books she's reading or show me the weird Tik Tok she just watched. It's important to show her that she's loved by respecting her boundaries. 2/2

Odds are very good that they were. Autism has various sensory issues associated with it. So, sometimes the standard ways of demonstrating affection (e.g. hugs and kisses) are overwhelming and unpleasant. It doesn't mean that they didn't feel affection, they just didn't express it that way. 1/2
